My reversing Kit has arrived and i've started the prep work as and when i can
So today i set about finding the actual wire for the reverse light
Pop the light cluster out - select reverse - stick multi-meter into the earth and start probing
Oh dear? no 12v feeds?
Checks lights with pin on back of cluster = All good
(opens Bonnet) reverse switch working Good
Sticks paper clips into reverse wiring = 0v Not good....
Set the multi-meter to continuity and checked all the fuses - all good
(yes i know wrong setting!)
Now at this point i didnt believe the fuse had popped
but i must have shorted out when i was probing somewhere on the connector and blown the fuse
So 10mins later i give up and go in - it was cold and decide to have a brew and break out the manual and locate the reverse light fuse
Goes back out - and Hey presto - Blown fuse
didnt have any spare so i left it - hoping to get some more soon
Gets in car later that night to drive the missus home - Oh the fans dont work?
Why is that? Decided to leave it then as it was cold - dark and i wanted to sleep
Next morning i hit the fuses for the fan circuit All looked good
Checked the relay by swapping it for the rear demister circuit - Still no joy
I check the relay sock has 12v in Yes = good
So i gave up and had another cuppa, and broke out the haynes manual
Flicks to the fan circuit - Finds the main power fuse circuit - it was as i thought all okay
Check the relay Small circuit side and follows the diagram - ah another fuse F31 7.5amp
(flicks to fuse diagram in haynes)
F31 7.5Amp - Air conditioning, reverse light, heater blower fan relay
:bang::bang::bang:
so the moral of this storey for all
- Start with the easiest thing - the fuse!
- Becareful where you stick things! like me i must have bridged the earth wire and reverse light wire when checking for power
- If a Fuse pops its for a reason, refit a new fuse and see what happens, dont be stingy like me and wait 1day to go get a new one....
