The quick question thread

The quick question thread

actually i dont even understand the question, it sounds like a queston specifically asked when the answer is in a book written by whoever asked it?

Anyone able to help with an assignment question?:)

'You are to describe the principles on which a machine tool operates when controlled by a CNC system.'

i had that question last year. I cant give you any decent answer because i dont have a copy of my answer any more, but you need to talk about the 6 degrees of movement, linear scale, constant feedback, the type of motor used (cant remember this one) etc. hope this helps, i cannot remember any more than this.

I assume they're looking for stuff such as degrees of freedom etc?

We have already done 6 degrees of freedom in another assignment, but yea i think some of the stuff Munkul posted, will probably leave it and knick it of someone tomorrow:eek:

Hmmm i would imagine that the type of people who would know these answers are the hands on type. Why would they want you to academically document this.
Somebody may be more academic and be able to explain this theory down to a tee but be absolutely terrible using CNC, another person may not have a clue how to write it down but be the dogs danglies using cnc. Who gets the job? :bang:

That wasnt aimed at you personally i just quoted the most comprehensive answer.

also did this last year
we had to give a diagram to explain 6 dof (i think there is a thread on ff somewhere)
and i included a bit about closed loop open loop systems type of motors used servers (forgot other types) type of lead screws ie ones with ball bearings instead of a sort of nut n bolt arrangement and how the computer box works rack plc etc even could go onto how it reads programming language

yes i agree knowing all this has very little to do with operating a cnc machine

This whole qualification thing has gone a bit mad bring back apprenticeships or learning on the job i say. Well for practicall based jobs anyway.

well i did a peo (preforming engineering operations) which i could have done an apprenticeship off

national vocational qualification Level 2 preforming engineering operations its EAL at top with EMTA

also i did a BTEC first diploma

the peo lists such crap as
working safely in an engineering environment

developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities
using and communicating engineering information
identifying and selecting engineering materials
fitting using hand skills
machining engineering materials
wiring and testing circuits
and building and testing electronic circuits
