Re: Quick Question thread

Hy folks,

What taxes (tax, mot, etc.) are in UK that car prices are lower than Germany, Italy etc. ? I searched on Google but I'm still confused...
I think a first reason would be the steering wheel position (which decreases the chances of export or smth)...
Can someone give me some examples, like tax/mot etc. for a fiat bravo 1.9td and a punto with a 1.2 L engine for instance ?

Thanks (y)

I have no idea what you mean

Re: Quick Question thread

I'm not using google translate...nvm...
I'm curious what taxes pay Eklipze3k for his seicento, for instance...to make a comparison between Romania and UK.
Get it?

tax on what?
purchasing a new car,2nd hand?
on a 2nd hand car is 20% VAT for a trade sale
or do you mean tax for running a car?

Re: Quick Question thread

Over here we pay:-

"Road Fund License" - This is direct Tax on owning a car. This varies per car for a 1.2 16v Bravo it's about £135 per year.
"MOT" - This costs about £40 a year assuming the car passes without any mechanical repairs. The test is a lot less strict than the one in place in Germany.
"Insurance" - Again this varies massively. I pay £580 fully comprehensive with 2 years no claims bonus @ 24yrs old on a 2005 1.4 Punto Sporting in a fairly low crime area.

I hope this helps!

Re: Quick Question thread

Well, Chris...

I am thinking about going to study there (maybe in Birmingham ... hmmm...because I have a mate there and will be much easier for me). I'm not pretty sure if I can continue year 2 of college in UK or I have to begin another one... If is the second option I finnish the college here and then I will migrate.

We (romanians) are in the top of the most poorly paid workers in Europe (n) ...I mean here the minimum wage is about 150 euros and in UK is about 1k pounds...so do the math :)

I'm not very sure yet what to do, but "anywhere" is better than here.
Most romanians have gone to Germany, France, Italy, Spain and are quite happy with their lives there.

PS. Do not confuse the romanians with the gypsies seen begging & stealing on TV news :nono:

Re: Quick Question thread

I pay £125 road tax yearly + £700 yearly (roughly) for insurance (but that will be different for you in Birmingham and with no 'NCD') + approx £40 a fortnight on fuel + MOT test is around £45 per year + servicing parts normally budget around £100 a year = £2,010 over the course of the year. Hope that helps.

Fair play. Like dave says it isn't easy going, there's a distinct lack of work at the moment. My father who's never been out of work for more than a month in his life has now been out of work since Aug last year as there simply isn't any!

And minimum wage is more like £650-£700 a month after you've paid your tax and national insurance contributions (I'm not sure if you do being an EU citizen ).

Re: Quick Question thread

I feel sorry for your father...
Romania is a part of UE since 2007, and I think if I'm not yet a British citizen the taxes are deducted from salary and I have no other to pay.
I think the luck getting a job depends on the field in which you want to work.
Anyway, I have to make a decision soon. :(
Thanks for your help ! :)
