I do like a diesel car. My friend had a panda diesel and the only thing that went wrong was the clutch which he did himself, I believe it's more awkward to do on the diesel but can't say for sure. Diesels only make sense on long runs as they aren't much more economical than petrol on short trips. Check the cills for rust and the area where the wipers are for blocked drainage.
