ok i just brought a R.reg punto 1.2 ELX for the misses but i'm hearing all this stuff about overheating.airlocks.stat's going.fans not working and rads messing up

and low and behold yest it started over heating blead it and sorted it and all was fine for 2 hours and i was on my way.

woke up thismorning and jumped in the cruz mobbie and temp shot up and the heads gone so i put it in the garage and its being sorted as i type...

but what is the prob with all this crap is fiat just taking the **** and not telling ppl theres a problem with the cooling system cos from what i can gather to many ppl with the same car ar having this prob

PS.anyone know y the one from the top ELX dont come with P/A/S the TD dose

oh and plus the fact that its a part that cost £150 - £200 to get fixed but fiat charge £445+vat they really think we would be taking it there to get it fixed??

the problem is people get them serviced by monkeys who dont refill the coolent propley and that causes air locks an blowes the head, or thermostates go an monkeys say oh might be an air lock they then open bleed valves with engine running that sucks air in! then head blows

depends if they monkeys or not are they fitting new bolts?

its in a garage that i know well they fitted a head on it at 35k and it was ok till now but i dont know about new bolts

ok, just my opinion but air locks causing the headgasget too fail sounds like guesswork too me, in my professional opinion after doing 100+ headgasgets over a period of 6 years makes me think its thermal variation in the cylinder head.
unless thats a 16v elx, then your just unlucky and forget what i said.

btw im sure the fiat engine rebuild manual says the streatchbolts can be re-used twice, i wouldnt of thought it a problem too reuse them even on a different head.

in my experance its the ones that are serviced by fiat that bugger up. why does the fiat book say use twice why it not give measurments if an engine has got very hot then surley the bolts would have streched more, bolts are only a fiver why scrimp and how do you know how many times they have been used before?

well boyz thanks for all the info i get it back today and hopefuly its all sorted i cant afford to be shelling out this kind of doe on it so if it happens again i'm going to sell it on i also asked steve at the garage to losen the gas peddle cos it was well sensative dont know if this aided in the head blowing as i am heavy footed with my cars but hopefuly its going to be 100% or i'm going back to the bloke i brought it off and going to drive it streat up his nose (just for a laff)
