1.1 16v would work i reckon, there is that polish 1.1 16vt so don't see why an NA wouldn't work..

Yep, you can stick a 16v head on it and over bore.
The problem is the minis. The minis in the class have between 110-140bhp with useable torque, which is what's needed on the hills. A 1108 based 120bhp n/a engine would be useless low down.

So supercharging would give that low down driveability and torque. Those minis are quite quick and light were pulling good times at the event that I went to must have been around 5 secs slower than the single seaters. Off to watch the nationals at Wiscombe soon should be a good event not been there before.
