Technical Temp gauge not working- fan on from start

I just had the temperature sensor replaced because the engine light came on and diagnostic said it was temperature sensor. Initially the temperature gauge didn’t work but after a day it started working. This was 3 weeks ago. The same thing has just happened. Engine light came on and temperature gauge doesn’t work and fan turns on as soon as you start engine. Can anyone help. Garage cannot look at it for another 2 or 3 days. If it is an intermittent fault could this keep happening. What else could it be?

It’ll likely be a fault with the sensor, or seeings as that’s been changed, the circuit between it and the ECU / body computer that it feeds back to.
