General Tapping sound

Lo all,

Just bought a Marea jtd 110 weekend with 50 k on the clock and when reving there seems to be a tapping sound other than the normal diesel clunk. Anyone have something similiar? If so what to do?

Can you expand on the tapping sound?

When I had a tapping noise I stopped it by letting my friend out the boot.

When do you get this noise? while driving? while stationary? under load? where does it seem to be coming from?

So the sound is coming from the engine when the revs go above 1500 and increases with the revs. It doesn't seem to make a difference if I put my foot right down or accelerate smoothly. When I say it comes from the engine, I have the feeling that it is coming form the right side (when sitting in the car).
That's about all I can say, I'm not much of a mechanic.

How many miles has it got and when were the belts last changed?

48 thousand on the clock and I don't think it has ever been changed. I only bought it last week.

Unless its a very late 02 model (i think they did them until then) then the cam belt change is overdue!

I heard something like that from a 2.4 JTD which had 80k on original belt. I left that one well alone! Not because of the noise... we have hope for your Marea yet!
