Tapping Noise! lol

Hi there all.

Right we are i have a 1.4 12v bravo 1998 on 80kmiles

I have recently had a tapping noise coming from under the bonnet, so i thought i'll change the tappets. i bought the full set of 12 and did an oil change filter change and cambelt change along with fan belt.

Oil i'm using is 0W 40 i know its thinner than specified but i was told its the best in a 4.5l bottle.

BUT! the tapping noise hasn't gone whatsoever and is exactly the same so as you can imagine i'm a bit mythed. But not to worry i'm sure you guys will help.

I'm thinking along the lines of possibly the oil may just be too thin?
oh by the way i tried STP didn't do bugger all.

Put the right oil in.

Did you check the cam for wear?

Ok i'll sort that tomorrow any specific brand, i know its supposed to be 10W 40 but any make better i always use magnatec or mobil 1

the cam seemed to be slightly worn but nothing too major to look at, may be major in terms of it being a precision instrument

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the noise disappears after a minute or so. its not as though its when it warm, because even if i lay it to rest of a few minutes and the engine is warm it does the same. makes me wonder more if its because the oil is to thin to stay on the tappets? i've bought the oil but the rain has been too bad to get near anything so i'll do it ASAP. i was thinking of this because if it were the cam shaft, then the noise would be constant wouldn't it??
