Hi all,
I bought a aluminium tappet cover off eBay , tried to fit to my 126 594 engine today, it won’t fit as it fowls on the carb, is there a specific one that fits with a 28 carb?

Sadly, no there is not! There are 2 ways around the problem---(1) you grind away the side of the rocker cover to eliminate the fouling of the carb against the rocker-cover or, (2) you put a short spacer between the carb and the Bakelite spacer, so as to raise the carb up a bit, enough that the carb is clear of the rocker-cover. It doesn't need to be raised by much as the rocker-cover top/side rolls away from the carb. Option (1) unfortunately leaves the rocker-cover looking a bit 'mangled', so option (2) might be the best way to go---I don't know if the spacer can be bought commercially (if it is I am sure that a Forum member will let us know) but it would not be difficult to make using a short piece of aluminium tubing (30mm internal bore) and a couple of pieces of 8mm aluminium plate, shaped to fit. The 3 pieces would then need welding together. The only downside of (2) is that the air-filter connections would need a bit of thought as to how to connect the carb to the air filter OR, ignore the air-filter and fit a small 'gauzed' inlet trumpet which IS commercially available (Passione, in Italy---part number:--ABA 499---E29 +tax+carriage).

Hi Hobbler,
Thanks again for the reply, when I bought the cover some material had been sanded off but it was fitted to a 500 engine, the 28 is different in the area causing the problem, I will as you suggest make a spacer to raise the carb .
