The self tensioning weights on the timing chain are cutting their way through the timing chain cover, time to fit a new kit before it breaks or does more damage.Hi all,
Removed the oil pump cover to have a nose in & witnessed some what look like newish marks on the inside , any idea what would cause it. I’m thinking issue with timing chain?

Also the engine is a 126 594cc , I have a couple of 500 engines, would one of those covers fit? That type of timing chain will fit all engines from 499 to 652cc. The 126 Bis timing chain kit will also fit as long as you change the whole kit.Thanks for the reply, I notice not all kits have the self tensioning weights on , is there a preference? The timing-chain cover off a 500 WILL physically fit a 126 engine (and vise versa) BUT the oil pumps are different in depth. Therefore, if you fit a 500 timing-chain cover off one of your 500 engines onto your 126 engine, you MUST use the 500's oil-pump, and again, if you fit a 126 timing -chain cover ontoa 500 engine, you must use a 126 oil-pump---basically, never 'mix and match'That type of timing chain will fit all engines from 499 to 652cc. I have three pulleys on my desk, 2 500 & 1 126, they all have the same part number on them, but will give them a measure see if I can see any differenceWhen I built the 540cc Nanni engine (full write up on this forum) I fitted the deeper 126 oil pump and cover for precisely the reasons you mention. When I fitted the original 500 crank pulley and tightened the nut it locked the crankshaft. Examining the bits I had I found three variations in the crank pulley so make sure you get the right one.
