tailgate key lock, little bugger!

when you put a key in a bravo lock it has alittle face plate that sits over the hole when a key isn't in (so the majority of the time. However, my tailgate/boot lock has lost its "flap" and it doesn't seem to be jammed inside.

Has anyone had this problem and is it easy enough to remove the lock and dismantle the lock or is dismantling lock a no go? I don't want to have to go about replaceing all the locks or having 2 sets of keys because i have a different lock on the boot.

This has really being annoying me, its one of those problems that isn't big enough to warrent spending a fair amount of money and neither is it small enough for me to brush under the carpet

Thank you for your help

My boot lock doesn't lock with the key and never has done.

Mine either.

I think it's down to the fact that Hatchbacks get filthy around that end and the locks fill with dirt and grit very easily. Someone on here went ape **** with their key and a can of WD40 on the lock and got it to work...but for how long?

locks locks and more locks

I have managed to get my lock working again with the use of WD40 clone....but for how long, without the "flap" to stop stuff getting in there then it will soon rust or gunk up.

I only got my car last sept and i don't know if the rear lock should or shouldn't have this "flap"

Was my car born with this genetic disorder or has the "flap" gone awol....please let me know

Thanks for your Reply's

Re: locks locks and more locks

forget about the flap...unless you mean the tiny cover over the mouth of the slit for the key, there isn't one. My car has the lock mouth guard but it makes no difference as far as i can see.

locks?

but if no ones has a flap to cover where the key goes in then all kinds of **** will get in there long term

i can't have been designed like that

can it?

let me know....thank you kindly

Re: locks?

My bravo has the flap on the boot and the 2 doors. I think that it either breaks or gets stuck open from a lack of lubrication. Drove a golf before the bravo and same thing happened on the drivers door, flap stuck open. Solved it with some special lock lubricant stuff that you can get and now i regularly treat all the locks on my bravo. I would try and sort it soon though as the shite getting sucked in there might destroy the lock eventually.

Re: Re: locks?

Mine never had the flap, i just use the lever in the car more then the key anyway. although i have my tailgate smoothed anyway, lol so i can't use the key even if i wanted to :)

special lubricant?

special lubricant?

what is it?

where can i get it?

And how much is it?

Thank You

Re: special lubricant?

I think its called graphite. Ill check the bottle when i get home to get you a brand name. Its my dads so i dont know where he got it unless theres a price tag on it. Id assume theyd have it in Halfords or maybe even a hardware store. Anyway let you know when i get home.
