Before I start, I just want to make it clear that I don't want "just get an abarth instead" as I like to tinker with things myself it would be enjoyable for me.

So I have a 2008 Fiat 500 Sport with the 1.4 100HP engine which I believe the T-Jet is based upon along with the same series of ECU's.

I am thinking maybe a T-Jet 150 from a bravo or such as it is cheaper than the 500 abarth engine. If I understand correctly the engine mounts should be the same for a swap although it was the gearbox I was worried about as I wasn't sure if the engine would mate with an abarth gearbox or not.

Does anyone know how much work electronically would need to be done, or would the ECU being the same series mean that it would communicate with the body computer/CAN okay?

Would appreciate some input but like I said if you are going to tell me to buy an abarth or dont bother blah blah then please spare your time and go elsewhere.

Those looking to be helpful in the matter then thanks! :)

It's generally wise to purchase a complete donor car so you have all the bits and they all work with each other. Once you sell off all the donor bits that you don't need the whole project might end up costing you very little.

You're talking of buying a Bravo engine, and an Abarth gearbox, by the time you account for all the other little bits that you'll need, I would have thought you'd be better off just finding a complete wrecked Abarth. That way you'll also have suspension and brakes, seats, wheels and body bits. Even if you don't want to go the whole Abarth route, I imagine those bits would be fairly sought after.

At a guess, these cars pre-date the days when everything is coded to one ECU, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Would have thought someone would have an idea?

hi, :)
as UFI says there will be so many "little bits" required.., it's probably best to start with 2 x working vehicles,

the Cinq / Sei section is far the busiest for non-factory FIAT builds,

:idea:Megasquirt fuelling is VERY popular in the older modded cars, but how you adapt/ tailor it into a modern vehicles wiring..??

I'm afraid the complexities of Canbus, etc are beyond me, and you may well need info from the TECH section
fingers99 was always VERY knowledgeable:worship:

I'm sure its doable but is it worth it when they make a car with that engine already?
There's a reason the Abarth's front bumper is the size and shape it is, so the radiator, oil cooler and intercooler radiator will fit, plus the Abarth doesn't use the same air intake as the Bravo, it has a special one that sits on top of the cam cover.

There is a 500 abarth engine and gearbox on eBay for £1000 or several engine only for around £1300 - 1500

Don't forget you'll likely need to upgrade the brakes and possibly the suspension as well.

Electronics wise the engine ecu from any abarth should be compatible with normal 500 electronics but will all need coding together
