Unsure about whether to get a dump valve or wastegate for my t-jet, suggestions please guys! Cheers

I've got mates telling me to get a dump valve and mates telling me to get a wastegate. What is the difference?

Its late and my brain isnt working, but a wastegate is something that should be part of the turbo already. Its used to regulate the boost on the turbo. A dump valve can either be re-circ or atmosphere dump. For noise and lag reduction, get the atmos. Be aware it can affect the idle on certain cars. DV is used to release the pressure when the throttle is released, to prevent lag, when the throttle is re-applied.

cheers mate, so definatley got for an atmospherics dump valve? Been searching high and low for a dump valve but cant manage to find them anywhere, you got any suggestions?

sorry to say all i can think about when i hear a car with a dump valve is what a chav.

I think that all depends on what car it is, and whether the dump valve is real or not.

My friend has a 253bhp Focus RS, that has an atmospheric dumpvalve and i don't think that he's a chav.

You can't wipe your own a*se these days without being called a chav.

precisely...

i have alloys and induction

im a chav :spin:

Exactly,

I've met grandej a few times and I know he isn't a chav.

If I want to do engine modifications to my car does that make me a chav? does it mean I sit on Aldi car park on a friday night with a bottle of white lightning whilst impregnating my 14 year old girlfriend? No it doesn't.

Car enthusiast and chav, a world apart.

Amazing how many people consider their mates to be the ultimate source of knowledge on all things known to mankind..........
If half your mates said you should have gonorhea and the other half said you should have clamidia what would you do???

Go for a waste gate (gonorhea) and a dump valve (clamidia).:D. Do you think it would solve my problem?

well yeah.. i mean it is only there to make a noise - it's not like it does anything useful like preventing compressor surge or anything

i wouldn't be suprised if the car already has a recirculating DV.

Indeed it has- https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo/120396-blowoff-valve.html

The Ford forums have been arguing for years over which is preferable- atmospheric dump valve/ recirculating dump valve/ or none at all ("chatter" hee hee! :D)

In basic terms, the atmos. valve and recirc. valve do the same job, it's just that the former makes a noise. Thing is personally, I find that jap stuff like Skylines, Evos, etc always seem to sound better, whereas the european turbo'd motors make a weaker noise.

At the end of the day most people would say that atmospheric dump valves are 'chavvy', whatever the age of the driver, or the car it's fitted to- after all, the recirculating valve does exactly the same job, so why have one that makes noise?... Because you want people to notice you, that's all.
