Off Topic swerved to avoid cyslist....look what happened :(

after seeing the mess a family member made of himself swerving on the road to avoid things like cyclists/animals/pedestrians, i vowed never to swerve for anything (but brake like fook!)
the family member swerved for something ended up touching grass with two wheels, losing braking and ended up at about 40 front first into a skip full of bricks and rubble. wasnt a pretty sight him or car. (even though had a seatbelt on, ended up bullseying the windscreen)
i've swerved for nothing since

I know everyone reacts differently. This may look worse than it is, could be the drive shafts ripped out the diff.

Sorry to hear and see what happened, it seems that when the unlucky streak comes you just need to come and take it all. Same happened to me 2 months ago and I was forced to go in the back of the cab just to avoid everything else (it was the taxis fault so I thought I could at least let him have it). My car is still in the shop due to the stupid Romanian insurance bureaucracy but nevertheless it's getting fixed and that's what matters.

These situations where it was not actually your fault but in the eyes of the law it is or isn't mentioned suck big time.

I hope your car gets fixed as soon as possible. Always remember it could have been worse and trust me you wouldn't want to hit a man with your car so rest assured you made the right choice and you should be proud of it. Plus hitting him would most likely have ruined your custom dayline headlamps. :)

Looking forward to seeing pics of your repaired car.

will know by 11am today what the extent of the damage is, its being inspected now. mechanic didn't have time to do anything yesterday as i dropped it in on him by "surprise"

A general thank-you to all those that have, without any need to, selflessly offered to help me out. even if I don't need what you have offered, I will remember the action and will be happy to help if ever you are in need and I am in a position to do so. reminds me how good this forum really is (y)

A little of topic, I know.

Just been showing a friend the photo's of what happened to your car, do you have wind defectors installed on the door windows?

He wants to know if they work and if they reduce noise levels when traveling at speed(motorway).

errm, well there isn't a notable difference between with them on and with them off on a motorway that i can tell....

but the one MAJOR advantage ive found is that i can have the windows open about 4" when its raining (any amount) and i don't get wet...its good for me as i usually drive with the windows open. and i suppose it would be good for smokers in the rain, but im not one of them.

My friend is a smoker and he's embarrased by the smell of his car, even though he opens the windows.

He's been told a good set of wind deflectors help a lot, drawing smoke out the cab.

If they're good in the rain I may buy a set myself. When 3 or 4 of us jump into the car when its raining and we're wet, the windows mist up in seconds. Only way to clear them is wind the windows down a little, not the best idea when its raining.

yep, my mate is also a smoker in his GP, he has wind deflectors and his car don't stink.

The theory behind it is the deflector creates low pressure underneath it, sucking air out of the cabin if the window is open...but at the same time not allowing foreign objects into the cabin

They're excellent in the rain, the stilo ones are allot better than the GP ones as they stick out a little more. so give a good "deflection". i have the same problem with the windows misting up, but a quick blast of the AC usually sorts it.

Smokers cars really do stink don't they, some make me feel ill. :yuck:

I went to the racing(dogs) a few days ago with friends.

I'm 6 foot 2 inches tall and 17 stone, out of the 4 of us I was the smallest, the biggest being Paul, 6 foot 5 and 19 stone. After the racing we had a couple of pints and headed back to my car in the rain. All 4 of us was now soaked, got into my car and in less than 30 seconds I couldn't see out the windows. AC on full it couldn't cope with well over 60 stone of wet bodies. Our bald heads didn't help, you could see the steam rising off them. I had to drive to my local pub to meet our other halves with the windows down in the rain, not a pleasant option.

Time to look for some wind deflectors. (y)

lol meant in the most polite way possible, me any my mates are a bit more "slight"...im 6ft 1 @200lbs, with a healthy head of hair...and there is only one bigger...so AC usually copes. but yes, wind deflectors are one of the most worthwhile mods ive done...look for "team heko" ones, they are good quality and perfect fit, have seen some others that are a bit cheaper, but the quality is lacking!

update:

Heard from garage....they've been unable to move it due to the fooked condition of the wishbone. i had an offer from FF members for wishbones and the like...but they need to move it onto ramps before they can start, so ive let them get a new one on quickly...

damage report ATM is:
Wishbone 100%
Driveshaft 30%
GEARBOX :( :( 85%

% is percentage possibility of part being beyond salvage...

will know in a few hours if I have to find a gearbox AGAIN, they are sourcing and fitting wishbone as we speak...

its already in my watch list ;)

only concern is no history on the box and getting it down to N.London....for £100 more ive found another one that will deliver (included in price) from a 52k car with 90 warranty and is "A real good box" but im putting that statement down to the breaker trying to 'sell' it....

if only redcorn had another box....the £150 one was perfect! :(

wont be stuck, just watching the pennies, a few miles here and there wont break the bank, its getting clear of London that drinks the petrol anyway, once shes on the open road, shes allot more frugal...also a 52k box with 90 warranty is slightly better sounding than an unknown...although they do seem to offer an optional 6 month warranty on the £195 box...

im just waiting on the call from the garage before making any decisions, they may be able to make do with just a case (apparently they think there is a hole in a similar place to the old box....) and you've already helped me out by giving me a list of cars with the same case (y)

you've earned yourself a fair few favours with me if you ever need shadey, no doubt about that (y)
