the rubber deteriorates allowing play which causes the clunk noise over bumps, but the drop link shouldn't separate into two pieces. they may look ok but jacking the car up and testing for free play is the only way to know how worn they are.
I jacked up my marea and checked for freeplay in the droplinks, I can move them in a "rotating" manner about 30 degrees either side, but I think that that's because it's a ball joint?
I can't move it sideways or up / down.
Also I checked my control arms, with a long screwdriver, which seemed to have about a 2 to 3 mm. of freeplay on both, not a lot, I would say the same freeplay as the width of a coin for the control arms.. (forcing it though) :bang:
I don't know if this info is of any value, but when I quickly steer left / right / left / right
I can hear a clunk as well from the left wheel, in the opposite turn the right wheel...
Hi inflightfeather
when i replaced the anti roll bar link,i took a gamble with offside as that was where the noise seemed to be coming from.I couldn't feel any play while the link was on the car but once removed, the ball joint which connects to the shocker leg was worn out.
i had the same problem with mine ......it was the anti roll bar bushes they were knackered and the roll bar had moved over causing the link arms to hit the cross member.............
has anyone cured the loss of power on the 2.4 td 125 ....lose power when cruising and i have to let the engine drop to tick over to get the boost back...i have changed the maf meter and the vacum pipes are ok but problem is still there .........can u help
