I'm trying to take the sump off of my 1.4 idea,I've taken all the 10mm bolts out and the two 14mm bolt from the bell housing side and the sump is slack but it's as if there is something else holding it at the clutch side, there's a thin tin plate which the two 14mm bolts go through,it's as if the plate is still attached to the sump, everythings moving but it just will not drop and the fiat disc says just to take the bolts out and remove the sump. Does anyone know what I'm missing here :bang:

from this pic it looks like there may be a small bolt (10mm spanner) holding the metal cover to sump

I thought that it might have been something like that but I can't see how to get a spanner into it,it's a bit dark now but I'll have another go tomorrow,I would have thought that the two 14mm bolts would have been enough to hold the wee plate on but I suppose the 10mm bolts just to make sure :D.

I've just bought the car as a 29000 mile one lady owner, full service history car,it's just a shame that the clown who done the last service over tightened the sump plug, fitted the wrong plugs and forgot to put the cambelt cover back on.
I suppose I should have a good enough car to run along side my 1240 panda once everythings been done.

anyway thank's again Dave and I'm sure I'll have more questions for you before it's back on the road (y)

it looks as if the plate has to come out with the sump as the 10mm bolt is behind the clutch housing

It say's to undo the bolts fixing the manual gearbox and differential to the cylinder block/crankcase,
So it looks like I'll have to undo the whole clutch bell housing just for a 10mm bolt:bang:

That plate comes of with the sump dont worry about it! Make sure you have all the 10mm bolts out then on the other side of the sump to where the plate is there are 2 studs with 10mm nuts on that go up few the sump (fcuk knows why:confused:)get a Chisel or something and prise dont by them and it will fill of(y) Done mine 4times now:bang: first time took around 3weeks second time 1hour down to half hour of and on now:slayer:

I've removed the bolt near the starter but the sump has no play at all and it feels as if it's the head of the 10mm bolt that's hitting the clutch housing,I can't believe that a wee 10mm bolt can cause as much trouble

I've got the sump down past the studs but it still don't seem to want to come down from the clutch side, how much force do you need to use?

If you have taken the bolts holding the to plate together out you now just have to force it of the otherside its the studs stoping it im telling ya(y) your going to have to bend the studs back after aswell or you want get sump back on

That's the sump helicoiled and back on without that bloody 10mm bolt,I just have to hope that the two 14mm bolts can take the strain of the plate without the 10mm bolt to back them up :ROFLMAO:

the sump went on no problem without the bolt then I just slotted the plate in between the sump and the clutch housing, job done, and thank's for the info lads (y)
