Well im on a few diffrent sites .. ive been away at a ford show and seen they do stuff that we could do as in

car of the month .. ( people have even made stickers up and stuck them on the cars to show off thay are)
and people who win the month they get there picture in the DOWNLOADABLE Callender ( to keep costs down ..

Get some sort of compertitions going ect ...

prizes could be , free entry in to certian meets, free bag of chips ... errm ect

Car of the month - we did something kind of similar with the downloable calendars.

Competitions - did one last year and got 3 entries. Prize was a site goody bag including customised polo shirt.

I'm all for trying stuff, but we need the users to support efforts to make them work :)

Personally, I think what we need just now is more members. There's a lot of Scottish members elsewhere ie on FF and it's our core market. We're making efforts to get new members on here all the time, but it needs more than just the admin team to get folk logging on here!

nice idea with the comp, but we dont have a big enough userbase right now to have enough entries. we'd end up with the same cars winning multiple times very quickly or cars just winning for the sake of them not having won before, which just isn't in the spirit of a competition

i like the naked chicks idea!!! :p :p.

i think that a car of the show could be good, ie cupar look over all the cars and pic the best for its age! :). (ill never win).

they could get something simple like a free sticker or indeed a bag of chips.

Also agree to car of show idea.

I don't think it necessarily needs to be age related though as we have some pretty stunning older cars on site. Plus newer ones don't always look good as evidenced by the fact that, despite having the younger car, I refuse to park anywhere near abyss's car cos it's embarrassing  Could get quite expensive if you go by age.

i ment age related so could have best of 1980-1990. best of 1990-2000 best of 2000-on. or something similar. just trying to make it fair as some brand new cars will be mint and win all the time :)

Trust me, mine's the exception to the rule

I get your point and it probably is the fair way to do things but at the same time, as I said, we've got some stunning older cars here and both Wullie's Cinq sporting and Brad's Mk2 could easily give abyss's gp a run for it's money because of the amount of work they've put in. Seriously nice looking cars all of them and I'd hate to be the one to choose between those 3 alone.

Plus the last I heard the site's not exactly rolling in money so maybe best to be practical for now and aim for more later if donations and shop sales pick up

Just a suggestion though

so a bag of chips for the nicest car to turn up? taking in to account both age and work... ie a mint old car would score just as high as a mint new car.

Maybe a points system so the older ones score higher as more work is required to make them look mint. Although that then possibly makes it unfair for the newer ones which leads us back to your suggestion...

Ah sod it, I'm just thankful it ain't me deciding how it's done or who gets the chips

Random out loud typing...could do something similar to PH and have an owner carpool...what you've had before, why you got what you've got now, what you love, what you hate, where you've been, what's next...and so forth. Always an interesting read on there getting the owner's perspective and I think it could well complement the Projects part of the forum. I know it'd be a blatant copy of the Pistonheads idea but still :D

Would it be possible to bring back the Thanks Button at all??

the problem with a thanks button is it discourages discussion (people end up just clicking thanks rather than commenting) and ends up getting abused (people clicking thanks for things other than useful posts) making it a kinda irrelevant stat

I think there was some compatibility issues with the thanks/like options with the latest iteration of the forum software (could be wrong on that count) but I agree with Mark it can negate people adding posts to a discussion. That said, I would often like/thank something then add to it ala Facebook :D

There is - and getting it working 100% is gonna be a nightmare.

I also subscribe to the train of thought that it's detracting somewhat from the whole point of the forum - posting about various topics. It's far too easy to just hit Like and be doing with it!
