imo your requirements do not mean an estate is needed, or even the best choice.

all you need is a hatchback with a decent sized boot. that gives you far more choice and also helps you meet all 5 requirements in one car.

My puppies are energetic, one doesn't travel well and you'd be surprised how far mud travels. My theory on the estate is it means the dogs are well out of my way when I'm driving.?

if you dont need the back seats when the dogs are in then a mk2/2b punto would be perfect even for huge dogs. the load area is massive with the seats down. we use my GF's punto for load lugging, like when we moved house it all went in the punto no probs. the car still drove nicely when weighed down and puled away no probs. that little punto has defo earned my respect over the years.

personally i think a focus would be better. access at the back is good and you probably wont even need to put the seats down.

Why don't you drop the back seats? You're not carrying around more than 1 passenger too are you?

I used to do that but it's not ideal - I like to go camping/shopping/pick friends up from the airport etc. So a clean "people part" of the car would be good.

yeah thats a valid point. it can be unsafe having dogs on the loose inside your car. you need a hatchback with a big enough boot that you dont need the seats down to fit the dogs in.

focus still ticks all the boxes, and its good fun too.

Yeah punto's are surprisingly roomy I managed a 50" CRT TV and its stand(without collapsing) and still had room for sports bag full of cables / xbox etc :D :slayer:

putting the seats down
i think a focus boot would be big enough that you dont need to put the setas down. if you took the parcel shelf out and fitted the dog guard (available from ford dealers) and put a few rugs down it should be a nice place for 2 dogs.

but putting the seats down would mean having the dogs loose and could then jump into the front of the car which isn't ideal!

when i used to have the backseats down i used to use a dog guard.

i'd still use one even if the seats were up.

And I'd get a Barjo tailgate guard.:yum:

i used to love driving with just Tesse in the car with me. Even when I had the SJ with the roof off she'd just hang over the side and enjoy the ride quietly.

Larry is a pain in the fuggin ar$e and 2 years later is barely any calmer. I let him sit in the front so he can have his head out of the window - the only way he stays quiet and calm. He does settle on longer journeys/motorways but on short trips he needs shooting.
