hey ho... gots me a problem.

when the car went into the body shop i had to take the sub and the amp out.

however, when i put them back in the other day the sub doesnt work

the green "power" light on the amp comes on, and u can hear it working... but there is nothing coming out of the sub.

ive tried a different sub and still nothing, so it isnt (well i hope it isnt) the sub. so i was thinkin wiring problems...

could it be a dodgey connection on the earth cable?
or maybe the speaker wire?
or could it even be the phono leads?

help, it sounds crap with no bass.

If the amp powers on then it's probably your RCA leads. They're not getting pulled tight anywhere are they? I had this problem in my old car, causing one channel to cut out as it broke the lead.

I take it you're using the same earthing point? It didn't get painted over?

not that i am aware of... but i did fiddle with the headunit a few days ago as it wasnt sitting right, so i might of broken them then.

i was originally using one of the bolts that hold the rear seats up as an earth point, but it kept cutting out, so now i use one of the bolts under the rear seats where the fuel pump is... sound about right? where would be the best place for it to go?

so its gonna be something with the rca / signal comin from the headunit, and not the speaker cable or anythin else?

If it used to cut in / out before, then a dodgy RCA could well be the cause. Speaker cable is pretty robust, if you pulled one of your RCA leads apart by the connection, you'd see how easy they are to knacker in comparison.

the cutting out was down to the earth last time tho... cause u could fiddle with it and get the sound back, but i moved it to the fuel pump bolts, and it was fine....

and the rca cable was already in the car when i bought it, and all the wiring from the alarm is under the passengers side footwell, so its prob got caught, ripped on somethin when i was fitting the new headunit!!!

cheers for your help tho lads (y)

did u manage to fix the sub not working problem?

In my g/f's car she has a sub level within the menu on the HU which is presetable to between 0 and +8. I had the problem of the power coming on to the sub, but no sound coming out, which was just a setting on the HU not a problem with sub or amp.

yes mate i got it sorted in the end...
and it turns out it was exactly the same as that... as i have never had the instruction manual for the headunit i didnt have a clue, it got re-set to factory settings somewhere along the line, 5 mins fiddling and we are back rocking. :D

(this is of course after ive changed the RCA cable so that could of been part of the problem as well)
