I've decided to take this time while I'm not driving the car to do some general cleaning up and maintenance.
Today is the cam cover and attempting to clean up the rust in the engine bay and sub frames.
I took the battery cover off to get the coil pack off and saw this cap that is loose and wobbly on top of the gearbox, it doesn't screw and as hard as I push it will not clip in place.

I took a look on ePER and found this, it does look like it should clip in place, what does it do? Is it an oil filler / inspection cover?

TIA

Is that not the blanking cover for where the speed sensor would normally go on cars without ABS.

Hard to tell and get my bearings from the picture, but it does look to be in about the right place on the back but top of the gear box?

In other news your front sub-frame does not look very healthy.

A blank.. well possibly

It doesnt seem to lose oil through it

Subframe: dont worry sir.. they all do that

Thanks,

In the engine bay that is the top of the gearbox, the battery box is removed in that picture, that rusty hole to the right of the red circle is for the top middle battery box bolt. The coil pack is also removed as I'd taken the rocker cover off to replace the gasket.

Yes the front subframe is (was) iffy, I gave it a good wire brushing and anti rust yesterday. If she can get through one more MOT I'll be happy.

its just the breather. it is supposed to be loose. Gravity holds it down to prevent dirt getting in the oil. You can pull it out with a determined pull but there is nothing to it other than it being that plug in the photo
