Technical stuck in 5th gear

95 2.5 td mg gear box can any one help me camper van sticks in 5th gear when hot after about 50mile trip but perfect when cold have to wait an hour before it will come out of 5th changed oil 2.5 ltrs (shell sf 5288 75w-80w recommended in handbook) still does it can any one help Please

am I correct in thinking you have the famous external 5th gear ?
if so you are a lucky boy ! it's about to fail by the sound of it , with consequent possibly catastropic damage if the bits get into the main gearbox

SO DON'T USE 5th UNTIL IT HAS BEEN FIXED

there are threads all over the internet about this , and someone has posted a very professional set of instructions on this [ thanks garry ] ; have a look to see if this is what you have

as you will gather this is not uncommon!!!

just an extra thought , fiat have been known to say this takes 2 litres of oil , probably correct for the 4 speed ; but the 5 speed needs 2.7 litres !
