Stuck glove box

Hello members. New to your site. I am working on a 1978 Fiat 124 spider 1800 that was my aunt's car. It has been in storage for the last 20+ years. I can't seem to get the glove box open and don't want to break it. I do have the key, but honestly have never work this lock. Any insights on how to get this open without destroying it.
