Wow Morty !

very nice instructions :)

I already have an anti-roll bar but i wonder if it needs replacement after 8 years.

;) I just had a look on my old FIAT eper.

The "Torsion Bar" as its listed – part 1 attached was priced at 68.37 inc. VAT – part number 7711441. - think this is the roll bar - it has some funny names for parts BTW.

The prices are a bit old. I’m not sure which other parts you’d need to fit it, or if still available, but gives a good idea for price to pay.

Kind Regards,

Louie what is this screen image ? Is it somekind of fiat parts database ? Or other program ?
It's nice and usefull if it's a parts database.

Question here for Morty Mort, AlexGS and anyone else familiar with the anti-roll bar.

I recently got one and hope to fit it to my Uno when I get it back.

I got the roll bar itself, plus the two brackets to fit the suspension arms and also the two brackets that secure it to the subframe/ floor pan.

My question is:

With regards to the two brackets that fit onto the subframe/ floorpan, I can see that the front part of the bracket fits onto the existing inner suspension arm bolts. However, looking at my Haynes manual I can't see where the third (rear most) bolt goes?

Do I have to drill a hole in the floor pan to fit the third bolt? Or is there another piece of the bracket that I don't have? The guy I bought it from had already removed it so I didn't check to see if there was something missing...

Help please!

Chas

There are two brackets on each side of the exhaust. In addition there are two small brackets at both ends. 6 brackets alltogether. I guess the question is regarding the main brackets.

You should have two L-shaped brackets as a replacement for the original control arm brackets. One left, one right - they are mirrored. Only one bolt - the outermost, is to be mounted first. Then add the anti-roll bar bracket onto the L-shaped bracket and bolt in the second bolt through BOTH brackets. You WILL have to push to reach the welded nut on the inside of the car.

So to your question. I was also wondering like hell how this was done. Until I saw the bracket... There is a nut welded to it (on the upper side when mounted), so you should NOT drill a hole in the car. The nut can't bee seen from underneath so there is no point in photographing it - hence you can't see it in Haynes either.

Morten.

Morten, thanks VERY much for the information!

I was scratching my head trying to work it out, looking at the roll bar and brackets and also looking at the Haynes 'under engine' diagram.

I only have 4 brackets, so I'm missing the two 'L' control arm/ anti roll bar brackets. Luckily I have the lower two 'L' brackets.

Do you by any chance know the part number for these? Were they cheap/ expensive?

Louie, forgive my ignorance but how do I leave good rep again?

Don´t know the part number... Cheaper than expected, because it is an original Fiat spare. Paid around 45 GBP for both. Propably cheaper in the UK. Remember to get two opposite ones... left and right.

Hello, particularly to Dunc and Frosty (!)

I just wonder about the value of the rear strut brace. I have one (OMP, yellow) but what is it going to achieve, tying the shock absorber tops (which are rubber-mounted) together? .

-Alex

I tend to agree i bought a rear strut brace, but when i saw that it is mounted on top of the rear shocks i sold it again (for a profit on e-bay). A strut brace should be there to reinforce the shell not absorb suspension loads directly. I have bought (but not fitted yet) a Sparco Universal item to local directly across the rear struts, as this will stop the rear struts flexing. There will be forces directing into these, especially since my car will be blatted through the forests :)

Chas, email shop4parts. It may be even cheaper there than Fiat main dealer, especially as it sounds like suspension (common wear item on any car?).

The wheels are located not by the shock absorbers but by the trailing arms bushes! You can prove this by removing the rear shocks, and the wheel geometry stays exactly the same. If there was some way to tie the trailing arm mountings together, I can see that might help.

Hi Alex, I thought exactly the same about a rear strut brace at first. Didnt think it would be of much use but ask anybody who has one it makes a big difference. Unos dont have independant rear suspension and become quite light at the back end round corners. The rear strut brace helps to keep the suspension firmer at the back and makes the car feel better all round on corners but that maybe just a matter of opinion. I think it handles a lot better with one on than without especially as my car is lowered -40mm all round.

Thanks TS86, I'll give them a whirl if the parts are too expensive from a FIAT dealer. I hope Morten meant £4-5 and not £45! If they are just a few pounds then I'll get them from my local Fiat dealer as they are about 5 mins away from my house.

Hmm, I'm not sure quite how a rear strut brace will have much effect. A good front strut brace ties the two suspension towers together, therefore stiffening the body shell where the suspension mounts.

Just linking the two rear shocks tops together isn't going to have the same effect, especially as the rear shocks are rubber mounted into the inner wheel arches.

But I could be wrong, and as I haven't tried one in mine I can't say whether it does or doesn't have an effect.

What happend to that guy who was grass tracking a Uno? He might know about this as one of the important things to do when racing a car is to beef up the bodyshell.

£45 for two small metal brackets???? Please say that was a typing error Morten!

No typing error. This is an expensive country... For one hour in the Fiat garage: 80 GBP.

You don't want to buy Fiat spares in Norway. A used part in Norway is more expensive than a new one from the UK.

I can sell my Uno for over 1600 GBP.

 Sorry I'd missed your post.

See here for FIAT Eper CD rom info - contains all Uno parts and price - only £2 ;) Perhaps PM the member and ask ;) https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=28941.

Chas - did you spot the bracket on my eallier attachmant - If you did - tell us the number (1 - 18) and I'll look it up for you (y)

Louie, I think that diagram only shows the lower (anti-roll bar) bracket and bush which I already have - it's number 18 by the way.

I have the parts disc, very simliar to yours except mine is all in Italian. Bit difficult to understand at times as I don't speak Italian! I couldn't find the Uno turbo suspension in it anywhere...

The part I'm after might well be in the track control arm section. It's the bracket that holds the track control arm onto the subframe, the one nearest the floor pan (rearmost). It should be a sort of 'L' shape.

Any chance you could look it up for me?

Thanks!

Chas

Well

£5.23 for 5976740 (DS bracket ) at 230g

£4.84 for 5976741 (SN bracket ) at 230g

I think SN denotes non driver's side, but I'm not sure its basses on left hand drive

Prices include VAT - but may have gone up as I paid 74p for O ring gasket that’s listed at 70p :p

Wonder why the price is different for each side
