Hi
I have a Fiat Punto mk1 1.7 td and its turbo has behaved strange since i got it. the problem is that the turbo charger works only if i push the air conditioner button. I have always thought that the turbo was damaged but a month ago i had the windows open and the air conditioner on and i heard the whistle of the turbocharger.
it works when the airconditioner is on and it doesnt when its off.
Is there a way to fix it, to make the turbocharger work even when the airconditioner is off.
thx for the help

Yes it does. I can drive with three other people on a mountain road and the car accelerates, but when the air con is off i cant do the same road even if im alone

Can you feel the boost coming on? I mean, does performance improve when the air con is on?

Strange -- I don't know the car, but it's as though it is only leaving some kind of "safe" mode with the air con turned on. Wiring issue, perhaps?

Well i dont know if the problem are the wires, who knows, maybe.
im posting here because i would like to know which part is responsible for the turning on the turbo.
Maybe is some kind of switch or i dont know. this way i cant track the wires from this switch to the turbo electric valve.

Wiring diagram -- or even the handbook -- may offer up some clues.

Where can i find a wiring diagram or the hand book for the punto mk1.
i have searched but havent found anything around except for the haynes repair book but that one doesnt say anything about the electrical wirings.
thx for your help

The bootleg Mk1 Punto Haynes doesn't have the wiring diagrams (the "real" one does!). I've got the factory manual in Italian, but nothing in English.

PM me your email address and chassis number and I'll try and eMail it to you -- I don't have the time to sift through it to find the relevant wiring diagrams.

i have no idea how that would happen but please do update the thread if/when you find something, i'm quite intrigued how this could possibly happen..

I'll post here if i find smth about this problem.
