Hi everyone,

I’ve got a 2014 Fiat 500 TwinAir 85bhp and I’ve been having some odd issues with the turbo feeling laggy/resistant, with the revs sometimes climbing unusually high/ making blowout noise.
My mechanic says there’s nothing mechanically wrong.

Here’s the strange part:

When I had an aftermarket stereo installed, the turbo issue completely disappeared and it was back to running smoothly and felt amazing.
Unfortunately I had to uninstall the aftermarket stereo as it wasn't working with phone...

Now that I’ve reverted back to my OEM stereo, the turbo lag/high revs have returned!

I don’t use Blue&Me, but the OEM stereo obviously ties into it.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Could the OEM unit (or Blue&Me module) be causing interference on the CAN bus that’s affecting the ECU/boost control?
Any suggestions for diagnosing or fixing this would be appreciated.

I am in Dorset DT6 or West Midlands B63

Thanks in advance!

Blue & Me modules seem prone to failure, and do cause odd results. The module is located in the RH quarter panel, I think, accessed by removing the trim panel next to the rear seat. Disconnect it, and see if it affects the issue. It will cause the milage to flash, but you can ignore this for the duration of the test.

Or, just disconnect the radio. Anything that causes 'interference' on the Canbus can bring strange results.

I'd be interested to see a Blue and Me module (my day job is electronics)

I'd heard a smd cap fails and causes the problems, I'm more than willing to take a look if sent to me.

I'm really not very confident meddling with stuff myself.
But maybe I can look on YouTube. Do I need electric wire caps or something?

Not triggering ECO mode? 🤔
Nope, I have a button for ECO mode which I can still use to put on.
It's like the turbo kinda works, but not very well is all I can describe it as.
But when I had the aftermarket radio put in, the turbo was really responsive and awesome.

Thanks for the offer, but I really doubt I'll remove it, I'm not competent. Would probably rather just disconnect it if feasible.

@typecastboy may have some advice regarding disconnecting the B&M.
It'll be a bit of trim removal, and a connector to be disconnected. Can just be left adrift.

Never heard that one before. Seems extremely unlikely but hey, who knows. You can disconnect the Blue & Me by following my video on link below, although you do not need to remove the side panel entirely. Peel it back and get your hand in there and locate the plug. There's a small plastic tab that you have to depress to allow you to push the lever over to remove the plug. You can tape it up and leave it dangling. If you want the Blue & Me repaired, I repair them worldwide by post.

Not my field, but a turbo charger is a "mechanical " system, bar the waste gate being electrically controlled its hard to see the connection?
Try simply unplugging the radio and see how it drives ?
I've no idea how to do that and then I won't have any music? 😩

Thanks appreciate that, I watched the video, there's absolutely no way I'd be able to do that though unfortunately.
