This problem is driving me nut's.

About 12 month's ago, my 'R' Reg Marea TD100 was rebuilt at my local Fiat dealer because my engine over heated badly along way from home, so the cylinder head needed replacing thanks to a nice crack in it, and all other parts required at the same time. So all fixed but damn expensive.

Recently I had the glow plug's changed due to the glow plug heater light coming on and poor starting when cold, now fixed aswell. much cheaper job this time.

But shortly before they were changed the engine wether it being warmed up or cold, driving or at idle, it idle's roughly and when it does the exhaust creates an nice amount of white smoke until it decides to act normal and smooth again.

So does anybody have a answer to this, or any clues I can look for today when looking around the engine.

I have to fix it soon.

Thanks in advance.
Robert.

If the temp is under 10C the white smoke is normal. Its water that has condensed in the exhaust vaporising out. It should stop after the engine reaches the half way to normal tem. If the smoke remains and appears when the engine is warmed up it can be that your engine piston rings are letting some of the pressure in the sump and burning oil. Does it use much oil ?

It does seem to use an avarege amount of oil for an 8 year old diesel. But yes it does happen wether it's warming up or at warm temp.

But as it was rebuilt at my local fiat dealer around 8,000 miles ago, from the cylinder head up, i'm hoping it's not a mechanical engine part failure, I can't afford that now.

Any thought's.

Start the car and sniff the exhaust fumes, I know how that sounds ;), if they smell oily. Then the oil piston rings have gone with the engines head.
Plus you can check it this way, take out the oil stick, when the car is running and put your finger on the tube (close it) when you release it, there should be some pressure but not much - If there is a lot of pressure then its the above stated.

Thanks Sven, I'll give it a try today. I'll post back with the answer.

I hope it's not that bad though ??
