General Strange noises...

I am starting to lose faith in the old girl now... Seems the car is never running fault free which upsets me as I like the car and looked after it.

1) Their is a strange noises when accelerating. I have got it pinned down to the right side of the engine near to or around the belts. The alternator, cambelt and water pump were all done last year.

When accelerating their is what I can describe as in increaseing whir whir whir noise that is roational in sound, and only on acceleration or holding speed. Does not do it on lift off or in neatral coasting. Took it to the garage who said it could be air con compressor?? Im not convinced...

2) Driving along, the drivers side front suspension has developed a clanky rattle over rough surfaces.. Dosnt sound like a drop link, and can not see anything relating to a broken spring.

Any ideas guys? Its a 1.9 M-Jet Elegenza 62000 miles.

your clanky noise on rough surfaces is your drop links, take you wheel off and give it a good wobble and find out, there cheap to replace so it wont do any harm replacing them


as for the whir whir noise, I have a simolar noise and cannot locate it properly. BUT. like myself I've had a recon Altenator and unfortionatly from experiance in my old car I believe this is the cause AGAIN as its only above a certain speed. I will replace AGAIN when it stops working haha.


out of curiosity whilst you have your wheel off check your wheel bearing too they can cause a whiring/droning noise

I have exactly the same symptoms as you with the first noise. I took it to fiat and they have me this sheet and said nothing to worry about and it's not a fault. If nothing's at fault then why would it make a noise...given up with them now because my persistent complaining got me no where!

I think I have something simular sounds loudest when holding car on clutch? and when first pulling off in 1st? I have pinned it down to 1. its a FIAT 2. sound of engine when under load or 3. its a FIAT
