Hi all.

Recently had a good friend (also a good mechanic) do my MOT and while he was at it, check around my wheel and wheel arch's to make sure nothing was hitting. When turning right, with 2 or more passengers, I get a constant knocking, which knocks faster depending on my speed

I just replaced the shocks, to no avail too.

Friend say's he doesn't know where to start really, as its clearly a travel noise, and the CV joints are only on the front driving wheels (or so I believe)

Anybody had this before? Driving me crazy:mad:

Thanks for you're reply!

Well yeah we are 99.5% sure its coming from the back, and we had the wheel off and back on so def. not the nuts...

tbh I'm going to give up, looks like its a 'I had a car like that once, made a funyn noise and I never found out what it was' sort of thing :(

I paid £950 for her, so I won't expect much off her, but she has been and still is brilliant, LIVE ON PUNTO :slayer:

Lift each corner and try moving the wheel in and out at 12/6 oclock and 3/9 oclock positions. There should be no movement at all.

Cheers

Hmm yeah don't hurt to try, cheers

But as I said, my mechanic couldn't find a good reason as of yet :/

Are your sure it's not a CV cracking turn full lock
and drive in a circle turn the wheel the other way
full lock and drive in a circle.

If you hear a cracking noise from the side on fullest
lock suspect the cv joint.

right i'll try that at tesco in the morning, see if I can get anything by myself. I'm right in thinking a worn CV joint will make noise on full lock without the need for the extra weight right?

And would I need to go forward or reverse? May sound stupid but I'm read a few random bits lol;)

Forward full lock about 10mph + window down if you hear
crack crack crack noise which increase as your
speed does then it will probably be a cv joint.
No extra weight needed.

John

tried that, didn't do anything :/ but if I get one person to sit in the back passenger side seat and do a long fast corner or short sharp, it does it

i had that problem turned out it was a buldge in the tyre, as i was going round a corner it was hitting the buldge i didnt realise it until it created even more buldges so that the whole car was constantly vibrating! lol :bang:

hey,

this might not have anything to do with the knocking noise u are having trouble to find but on my punto on locks i kept getting knocking noises and after checking over i had loads of play / worn ball joint. as you said u have had a mechanic check it over so it may not be the case. the cv joint may have something to do with the knockin sound.

Actually thats a very good idea. Although it seems like the weight in the car affects the noise... If I jack the suspension up on that wheel, will the unladen weight of the car be enough to properly compress that side of the suspension? (this made sense in my head )

The clip that holds the handbrake cable by the exhaust was tapping the exhaust pipe under load ¬.¬

Hey ... These seem to come from the Wheel caps !! ... Give a test drive without wheel caps... There should be no knocking sound !!!
