Stilo V's new Astra

Stilo V's new Astra

As much as we can all hate the focus for being too common, it was actually not a bad car AFAIK by Ford standards but that's only hearsay, I think it's the only non-Fiat I have seen TC defend (or was I dreaming??!)

Re: Paul..............................

HAHAH!!! Did you expect me not to remember, Alfa Vs. Stilo thread I think:

Roberto

The Focus, wether we like it or not trounces (beats comprehensively) any other vehicle in its class for handling, even six years on it has the most dynamic and best handling chassis to date, and this is verified by every motoring publication! [:0]

Savi.

Re: Paul..............................

I agree, the old shape Focus has some fantastic handling characteristics! Even the Mondeo was one of the class-leaders for handling.

i know for a fact that if someone gave you an 04 astra for free i know none of you would be turning that S**T down.

Did someone say free?

Mate, I would even take a Kia Rio (and I hate them with a passion), if it were free!

Admittedly, I be wearing a disguise when I collected it

re all the argument over Stilo v Astra. I'm afraid that like it or not, Samico is correct in what he says (he's a bright kid) The facts are, Fiat should stick to doing what they do best i.e. make good cheap small cars and leave the performance side of things to their brother, Alfa Romeo. the Stilo is a horrible car to drive, the steering is dead (city mode? whats that all about??) and has no feed back at all. The acceleration is poor except on the diesels and they suffer dreadfully with turbo lag. The top of the range 'Abarth' is a joke and denigrates the once famous name. The materials used in the Stilos construction are cheap, the ride noise is appalling but, the radio is an improvement to that on other Fiats in so much as you can actually turn it on and off without the use of tweezers.

The Astra, although not very attractive is far more of a 'drivers car with better handling, steering response and the engines are far better across the range
personally...I wouldn't have either

Listen to Samico...he knows what he is talking about, dont be put off by his age, remember..Michael Schumacher was a triple kart champion at 16

I never had that problem on a car, it's only Eng after all, at least i would have had a better chance than this morning, the key wouldn't go in more than 1cm (5cm long), i will have to invest in a lighter for next time.
Spray the lock with WD 40 Paul, it will displace the moisture and help stop it from freezing! (y)

Roger...

..you Samco's now infamous 'motor journalist parent'?

I think you are...

He knows what he's talking about eh? You mean he is reiterating what he has been told.

BTW, you say the JTD suffers from 'terrible turbo lag'. Really, I hadn't noticed, I've driven several TD's over the years and it has the least lag of any of them. It pulls well in any gear from around 1700rpm, whereas most need 2000. Even the fantastic BMW 320d suffers from more lag (the GF's uncle has one), as does the newer JTD 16v, the 1.3MJTD and several others I have tried.

Out of interest, I take it you have driven one and aren't just spouting what you have read?

Which cars in particular can you say have a better delivery?

And how is the Abarth a joke?

As for materials, I would disagree there too, admittedly, the game has moved on since the Stilo's launch but when it was new it was excellent in its class.

And I'm not saying the Astra isn't better to drive, I can't as I haven't driven one yet.

I still think you're Samico's Dad, after all, how many times do you state he is bright or knows what he is saying? After all, you certainly could have gained that opinion from his posts...

One of the ideas I came up with :) Only trouble is I have no WD 40 wtih me at Uni lol, I am going to buy either some deicer or a lighter to sort it out :)

Re: Roger...

lol, i love the "bright kid" comment, I guess that's what we wish we could be James, a bright 16 year old, ah well. ;) Nevermind bright slightly older and more mature students.

"Listen to Samico...he knows what he is talking about, dont be put off by his age, remember..Michael Schumacher was a triple kart champion at 16"

Wow, Samico is a triple kart champion and Schuhy clone, if so I may respect his viewpoint/your viewpoint you indoctorinate him with, but he's not. :)

We'll have to wait for some intelligent comments then.

James, if he really does work for a motoring journal, you never know, you and I along with others could be slated in national press, excellent!

Roger...

I realise some of my last post may have been slightly away from the point and perhaps a little patronising, but, would you be able to answer my original reply to you?

I am particularly interested in what TD you are comparing the JTD to when you say it suffers from terrible turbo lag?

Re: Or alternatively...

If it is his Dad - I truly hope it isn't - it is a bad show isn't it. As a 16 year old I didn't run away to Daddy every time something troubled me and people disagreed with me being so blatent, wrong and unable to back up my opinion. I simply learnt how to put forward my points of discussion. If I had asked my Dad to argue in my defence he would have told me to go and learn to argue, stop being so blatent, wrong and learn to back up your opinion.

I guess if Roger is his dad he will splurt how my parent's Renaults are badly built and fall to pieces, how Fiats fall to pieces and rust, Peugeots shouldn't be allowed on the road, Alfas drop to pieces and Fords/Vauxhalls are fantastic and very British cars. I could give you those J Clarkson views aswell yet I would rather do my best do make up my own opinions, at least then when I need to support them I can with experience.

Steve, would you honestly not take it JUST to sell it? I know I would, think what the c.£10000 it would fetch could buy!
