I could be worrying for nothing but my Stilo multiwagen 1.9 JTD seems to have turbo lag.
When pulling away with the engine at 1200 to just under 2000 revs there seems to be a bit of lag. Once the engine gets past 2000 plus revs it pulls hard through the gears, but if the revs drop below 2000 I can be left wondering if I could be slowing someone down behind me!!!
Has anyone else come across this, and if so, do you know the answer (apart from pull away at 2000 revs!!)?
Your help appreciated.......:)

Get a new fuel filter and don't use supermarket fuel again. You may need to get another filter within a few months, when the decent fuel cleans off the chip fat deposits in the fuel tank left by morissons diesel!

:( tried new diesel filter, new air filter, but still got a pause before the power comes in. It is quite worrying when I pull on to a roundabout from a stand still and there is not quite enough power to get out of the way of other roundabout users.
Once it gets going there is plenty of pull from the engine.
I am suspecting the turbo??????

I have the 80. turbo lag is abysmal I'm sick of changing gear just to keep up with traffic, I blanked off EGR just wondering about de-cat and maybe straight thro pipe. I haven't had many replies to my post on this subject

I have not had much help from many peeps on here too.
I have searched through the threads to find anyone else with a similar problem and found out about blanking the EGR valve.
I completed the blank this weekend but still have the 'lag'.
So to date, I have changed the air filter, fuel filter and blanked the EGR, but not really seen any improvement.:(

Hi,

As fingers says this should be in the Stilo section. Many of the "technical" people stay within their sections.. I've made the section mod aware so hopefully they will move this to the stilo section for you.

This is a common complaint on the JTD and is normally caused by one of a few things. You've tried a couple, next I would....

...Try disconnecting the MAF sensor and taking the car for a drive and seing if there's any improvement?

There should be virtually no "turbo lag" on a correctly functioning JTD

Mind you, you are posting in the wrong place -- Let's Talk FIAT is for general chit chat, rather than specific issues.

I stay away from Diesels, but the JTD 1.9 is a common FIAT/Alfa/Lancia motor. You might find an answer on another forum?

I did find some answers on this forum later in the Stilo section, praps I could have been directed to it rather than a suggestion to go on another forum.
Not very polite!

Thank you for your help Alan :)
Now I think I know my way around the forum a bit better.
One of the first things I did when I got the car a year ago was clean the mass air filter, because it had been disconnected by the previous owner.
The lag has been getting worse since, although I am sure a little bit better after blanking the AGR valve.
I will try disconnecting the MAF again and after reading previous comments/ideas on the Stilo section I intend to strip the AGR down to see if the valve is stuck in any way, even though I have blanked it.
Thanks again.
