Hi

I've been having a few problems with my Stilo when starting it up, after leaving it several hours (6+) or overnight. As soon as the engine starts, it came up with ABS Failure & ASR Failure, about once a month. Over the last few days it's been doing it every morning, but today it came up with Fuel Level Sensor Failure.

Each time the messages disappear as soon as you've had chance to read them; with the Fuel Level Sensor Failure this morning, the fuel guage went to 0 for a few seconds, then came back-up to where it should be?

Does anybody have any ideas? I'm thinking it's either a dashboard fault or Body Computer fault, but then again what do I know???? ;)

Thanks

I was having the same problems - was only happening 1st thing on a morning when car not used for a while.

Fuel Level sensor failure and ASR failure were the messages I was getting - these messages have now gone since I've had a new battery put on the car . . . . . . I've been told by dealer something to do with battery charge getting low - when you start the engine for the 1st time after a while using up battery charge meaning the voltage supplied to the electrics lower than usual, hence the error messages . . . .

Hei.

I've encountered these symptoms now and then on a Ford Mondeo 2.0 16v (1995 mod) and Peugeot 206 XT 16v (2003 mod) as well. Told they're propably a voltage problem. Try turning lights over to "park" before starting - see if it helps, 'cause they pull a lot of power from the battery and the "thing that charges the battery" (dynamo - Norwegian). The "dynamo" has a lot to do during startup of the car - this is why some cars make this crazy high freq. sound after startup - too little tension or worn out belt. In the end, they won't start if not renewed. Ok ok a bit out there, but propably a voltage problem, as Stilo 7 says.

Hi

I don't think they anticipated the power required for the electrical systems in these cars. If I turn my stereo up I get my own disco lights as the dashboard lights flash to the beat of the music. If I open a window at night time the headlights fade, same if I activate the windscreen wipers, the headlights fade, just idiosyncrocies of this car I'm afraid!

Ignore it and enjoy the driving!:p

Hi Stilo7

Thanks for your speedy reply! That explains so much now! I'll be printing this off and giving it to my dealer on monday. Do you think putting a battery from the JTD Dynamic would be better??

Thanks again to all!

Hi All

Well no luck this time. They said that the "FIAT Examiner" only works when a voltage of 12.5V+ is there. Apparantly my car has logged the Fuel Sender fault, and the service manager says to leave it for a few weeks [:(!].

Am now going to phone my other dealer! ;)

Well, after being told by my other dealer (Exeter) that "It's not under warranty, you're on your own, but it does sound like it's dead" i was most p****d off. So, I rang my Paignton dealer back, and they've agreed to order in the battery from the JTD, but I've got to pay the extra £14 over and above the cost of the 1.6's battery.

Only problem is Fiat gave no delivery date. I can see this taking as long as my new door trim (3 weeks and still waiting).
