Hi. Recently my JTD (04) Stilo sprang an air leak and had loss of power/revs on warm engine. The air leak was sorted with the replacement of the Turbo Inter Cooler Pipe. At the same time the power/rev loss also went away. Unfortunately the power/rev loss has returned (after 4 days) although there is no sign of the air leak (no obvious noise). The power loss is bad, as it takes an age for the power/revs to come up from a standing start - I just managed to get up a hill the other day when the car would only make 10mph with my foot flat down. The car is going back into the garage, but I think they are baffled as to what is going on. Has anyone had anything similar to this, or can offer some advice please? Regards. Nigel.

Check the EGR, loads on here about it. They can fail or get blocked up with soot.

Hi Ffoxy. That was quick! Thanks very much for that - I will get that info printed off. Cheers. Nigel.

:D Welcome to The Fiat Forum! (y)

Hope the EGR is your issue and a good clean fixes it. Use the Search function using "EGR" in the Stilo section or the whole forum, plenty notes about the symptoms and what people found & did.

:confused:Hi all. If anyone is interested this is an update. Took the car to a garage and they cleaned out the EGR (which was badly gunked up). This unfortunately did not help on a test drive. They then changed the air filter (changed 12 weeks ago on a full service), which was also badly gunked up. The fuel pipes were also cleaned out. I have tested the car for 3 days and all seemed OK. I have now noticed that the problem of rev loss is slowly but surely coming back again, so it looks like another trip to the garage. The garage did suggest dropping the fuel tank to check for dirt. Any suggestions from anyone would be very welcome, as this situation is now getting very annoying.:bang:

Quite a few threads on this type of problem but one thing you should always do for these symptoms is to simply disconnect the MAF sensor (obviously reconnect if it makes little difference)

If this make a big improvement then it's quite likely the sensor is faulty.

It's also critical to read Fault Codes (you don't mention any) with issues like this.

You'll find a lot more info by just Searching but ask away if you feel stuck (y)

:)Hi Argonought. Thanks for that. The car is booked into a Fiat garage next Monday, so hopefully they can get to the bottom of what is going on. I will pass on your suggestions to them, so thanks again. Since the latest repairs the car is again getting worse to drive. I lose revs on a warm engine whilst pulling away from a stopped position (no pull at all). The only way I can overcome this is to take the car out of gear, rev it and then put it into gear to drive off. This gives me the revs back and I can again get some speed up. The car (when I do this) seems to produce quite a bit of exhaust fume. I'm just hoping that I'm not causing any engine damage in doing this? I will post the outcome of next Monday's garage visit once I have it. I thank you and Ffoxy for your help, time and support with this matter. Cheers. Nigel.(y)

This is exactly the same as my car so let me know if the find the problem and what it was, and if they fix it. Cheers.

Hi Nigel, I'd normally expect a Fiat garage to know everything suggested but if you really want to tell them their job ;)

If the MAF test doesn't immediately solve your problem then the next step is to actually block off the EGR valve (simply cleaning doesn't always work when the valve is faulty)

I'd be surprised if it's anything else.

well im surprized no one has metioned the other thing it could be and thats the over boost valve but having said that if he isnt getting engine fault and the bleeps then it might not be ether that or the egr though.

Overboost issues will never stop you getting the car moving (less than 1500 rpm)

(y)Hi all. An update for you. The EGR has now been replaced and all seems OK. It was a mechanical problem within the unit (not electrical) hence it did not show as an alarm (no fault codes). I thank everyone for their help and support with this matter. Hopefully that will be that, but if I have any further problems relating to this fault, I will update. Cheers to all and good motoring!Nigel.:)

Yeah i do, loss of power on the smallest of incline, and sluggish on start, wants to stall no matter how much revs you put on, as soon as you lift the clutch they all go. And the excessive smoke when floored.

If i floor it all the time i get a bit of smoke, but if i drive sensibly then put my foot down its really dark thick black smoke that marks the floor black. Gonna have to get mine changed when i get paid.

If you are going to get the EGR replaced then my Fiat man did tell me that a reconditioned unit is about ÂŁ70 or ÂŁ80 cheaper than new and may come with a years guarentee (depending on your garage) - Might be worth thinking about to help save a few pounds! (y)

Just thinking. Would it be cheaper for me to buy the part and have someone fit it for me? Doesnt look like that hard of a job, as the EGR is easily located?? Has anyone changed theirs themselves, and was it hard to do?

This will be kinda off topic since im asking about a petrol engine.
Does the 1.6 16v have an egr valve?
