A close friend of mine has a Stilo JTD that suddenly would not start. The car drove 100% before this. It will turn over but not fire. A local garage says the ecu has had it. So before they closed at that conclusion they soldered a dodgy connection on the ecu, reprogrammed it and it was fine until the next morning.

After doing some research on here I have noticed that the Battery can cause many issues with these cars.

One thing I will point out is that the display that shows the current mileage will not show anything.

Any ideas before I get there tomorrow and start poking around it (y)

boosting within 24 hours is frowned upon.. you've not provided enough info to warrant any suggestions or diagnosis either.. what problem? what was soldered? How could they reprogram the ecu? And what did they say they reprogrammed? what are the error codes? are there any logged at all? was there an intermittent starting problem? did it ever cut out while driving?

one thing i can say.. a faulty battery will not cause you symptoms (i.e. for display to stop working there needs to be NO power at all i.e. not even to run the lights.. so if when you try to start everything is powering down, inc. lights, then yes the battery’s had it)
