The EGR heat exchanger is there to cool the hot exhaust gases, not for the exhaust gases to heat the engine coolant.

engine coolant cooling exhaust gasses and exhaust gasses heating engine coolant

Ain't it the same ?

In both ways there is heat exchange.

Yes... of course both situations will occur, but the EGR heat exchanger's purpose is to cool the hot exhaust gases thus reducing combustion temperature to a point where NOx is less likely to be produced.

so buy blanking the egr off i wont have any throttle problem any more like do now every few months, but is there any negative things about doing this or is it all positive? if so what are they?????

you wont get any performance issues by blanking it off but you probably will fail MOT.

clean the EGR valve as you have been doing before you blank it off so that you dont get any faults and the ecus still think its doing a proper job.

Remove the blanking plates for MOT time then refit afterwards

has anyone actually failed the mot with egr bypassed?.
i ask because last year my egr stuck and i blanked it off, it sailed though the mot as well - the car had around 98k miles on it at the time.
since then ive replaced the egr and its running fine, but the fuel economy was defo an improvement with it blanked off.

egr is a dirty system by default and it seems to be where a lot of the issues stem from but reports of noticely better mpg is surely a good thing. im not sure that mileage would be an issue it just seems to be that a lot of people have started blanking EGRs around the 100k kinda mark

I'm a bit confused as to how blanking the EGR can improve mpg, can anyone explain why this is?

Mine passed MOT when blanked off.

It's purpose is to reduce the amount of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) being emitted from the exhaust pipe. Too much NOx emissions will fail the MOT test.

NOx is not tested for during an MOT test for Diesels.

Only if their valve is in bad condition .

The Required Air Intake parameter is only required for the ECU to open and close the EGR valve, not fuel related.

Blanked my EGR off even though it was in perfect working order and my MPG improved.

The EGR adds exhaust gases to the fuel and air mix to reduce NOx gases. This reduces the combustion temperature in doing so it increases the amount of particulates produced, reduces the engines fuel efficiency and power. When you put your foot down the EGR closes effectively "Blanking" the EGR system off. So during an MOT when the engine is revved to test for particulates the EGR should be in the closed position(blanked off). By blanking off the EGR your only doing what the EGR does automatically when power is called for, hence cars with blanked EGR's easily pass MOT's. My car had better results with a tuning box fitted and the EGR blanked than it did without, there's a thread in the stilo section somewhere with my MOT results posted in it. I'll link to it if I can find it.

shadeyman is it possible if you could send me a blank plate so i can put on my car down buy the manifold on section B on the pics.
let me know about the donation and i will do so then pm you my address.

if thats ok?

mine has a tuning box so it should make a difference like it has done on your car.

so thats all you do is loosen the bolts and place that in between the seal isit? you dont need a gasket on either side so makes a good seal????

Had my EGR cleaned and blanked off today, but despite me asking for it to be put at postion B, the garage put it at position A. Whats the difference ? The garage says its does'nt matter as both points stop the carbon going into the EGR valve. My re-maped JTD was smoking badly, today it was found the EGR value was badly carboned up, it only just passed the emssions test on the last MOT. Any idea why mine has got so carboned up and stated to smoke in the last year, only because of the re-map 1 year ago, or because the carbon builds up over years & years ?
