My 5 month old 1.2 Active 3 door Stilo is going crazy! It`s passenger door is refusing to open nearly everyday and it takes a lot of fiddling with the remote control to get it to open. The FIAT dealer told me it was the deadlock coming on by itself for some reason or other. Have yoou experienced this problem? If yes how did you solve it?

Never heard of that one before. Smells like B.C (body computer)

When the passenger door locks by itself, I have to press the remote control many times and after 5 minutes or so I hear the door releasing and it opens. Now I live in constant fear that it will repeat itself and it does. I shall take the car to the dealer.

If anyone of you has had this trouble, what did you do?

Hi team

I've had this problem with my Stilo 5dr - it would refuse to unlock from the inside or outside handles. I had to press the remote several times (activating the deadlock each time) to get the door to open (rear passenger door).

I took it to my local Fiat dealer, who fixed it, and told me that it was a semi-common problem, and it was the deadlock "worm-drive" that was sticking, and causing the outer-door-handle linkage to become unusable. He said it was also a fault with the 3dr's, mainly on the passenger-side door. My Stilo had a whole new mechanism put in it which cured it.

(they had one which they had to cut the door panel off using a saw whilst the door was closed!!!!!)

I had the problem with my 3 door.

Passenger's door just refused to open at all one day.

Dealer had to replace the locking mechanism, (removing both front seats in the process to get to the inside of the door.

Seems Ok Now

Anyone of you have noticed if this only happened at night or in humidity?Fiat had a few occasions with cars lock and unlock by itself

Thanks for your replies. Yes the door refuses to open mainly the first thing in the morning or at night, meaning that humidity does play a part.

Theres a fault with them. There is a new modified number for the door locks/motor only on the passenger side though.

Took my Stilo in two weeks ago for the deadlock problem, they had it all day, when i picked it up they said they had found the problem, but had got know new part in stock, and it's still not here, possibly the most annoying problem I have ever had with a car, and to top it of my airbag light problem has started again today, apart from that life's great!

Does anyone know the part number for the modified door locks mentioned by FiatExpert?

My doorlock failed in July. Since then they have disabled the deadlock function while waiting for a modified lock.

When I noticed FiatExperts message I contacted the dealer to make sure that a modified part was ordered for my car. Today they are saying that the local Fiat importer is being told by Italy that no new part is available.

The number of the part would be a great help

Deadlock Madness

I noticed today that even when the car is locked (with the button on the inside and from the key fob) i can still open the car from the inside (but not the outside). I dont get the 3 flashes when double pressing the key fob and my little led flasher is not appearing at all ( i think they busted it on saturday fitting the window regulator)

Anyone have any experience of the stilo locking system? Its going back to the dealer ASAP, this ones got me worried!

It looks like the deadlocks are either a) very strange b) not arming c) screwed

Re: Deadlock Madness

Tashy, deadlocks in all senses mean that if you smash a window (be it in a car or a house) you can't undo the lock. The only way to do it is with the key/remote.

Usually on a car they require you to double press the remote and you hear a second click, on a house you need to close the door normally until it latches then turn the key once.

Re: Deadlock Madness

I dunno whether it should open though if you locked it from the inside with the key. That means all someone has to do is smash the window and open the door, i thought they were meant to dead lock when locked on the key. I'll have a look at mine tomorrow and see

Why it says in the manual dont leave anyone inside becuase they wont have any way out. Mines doesnt seem to follow this rule, can't get it to do the 3 flashes which suggest deadlock is busted.

Strange, i dont understand why the door handle would override the internal lock. It just doesnt make sense, say you got a kid in the passenger seat and you have the car locked it just takes them to pull the handle while driving and bam the door is open....something not right here.

Put child in rear seat with either child locks (like on my non-technical car) or no doors if it's a 3 door. That's what most people do :)

Tashy, good girl, know your place :p jk....

Firstly are you sure they are fitted to your car?
Secondly do they need to be activated?
Thirdly are you sure you're using the right method to switch them on?

I believe all stilo's have deadlocks, id expect a 54 plate one to have them. I am sure i am doing it right.

The only way to lock the doors from inside is to use the button next to the window switches, it puts down the lock pillars on the door, so i would expect that to be the door locked, but you pull the handle and the pillars pop back up and the door opens.

From outside with remote 2 quick presses i can hear the second click but i dont get the 3 flashes (cant say what the led is doing cos its busted...thanks to arnold clark) Its probably tied into the fact that they had the door appart on saturday and the lock is sound clunky, i think theyve done something. :bang: :bang:

Looks like another saturday morning in arnold clark for me :yuck:

Re: Deadlock Madness

That's right, if you press the lock button twice (quickly) the car should definately dead lock and not be possible to open from the inside (iknow because i locked some friends in mine). The button on the door will never deadlock the car because obviously nobody wants to lockthemselves in thei own car!!!!!! As fo children, if u have the 5 door i'm sure there's a child security lock on the rear doors and if the child is in the front, well..... he can open the door and jump out at any time!!!!!!!!!!!
Get your dealer to have a look at it, i'm sure it's no big deal (or lets hope so!!) (y)

Re: Deadlock Madness

Yeah was reading the manual it is understandable for the doors not to deadlock on the interior button, the handle is sort of a 2 stage unlock then pull further to open. Will need to have a look at that.

The door is definitley getting checked out i want the led flasher fixed and the clunky door lock seen too, they opened the door up they can put it back together properly. Will get them to check the deadlock while its in.

PS dont have kids, kids are not allowed with barfing distance of my baby, not after they hurled all over my fiesta the day before i traded it in (y)

Re: Deadlock Madness

Checked this morning, deadlock from key fob is working fine, just the flashers not flashing 3 times. I was told back when i picked up the car there may be a couple of differences from what the manual says as fiat were still using an old manual.
