Technical Stilo Abarth 3 door shock absorbers HELP!!

Hi all, ok so this topic is not new, but ive read through all existing threads regarding shock absorbers and unfortunately my very specific requirements have not been answered so please if i could have some very specific help?

I live in New Zealand. I need all need all 4 shock absorbers. I need to import them from somewhere in Europe.

I have lowered the car with the eibach pro kit and all 4 shocks now hiss and squeak and creak when going over bumps.

So... I need to know what, and where i should buy these shocks online. I am having huge amounts of issues trying to find a listing that fits the 3 door abarth, rather than the 2.4 that i assume is the 4 door?

From my current research it looks like the best value for money is the KYB, but it looks like most listings exclude the Arbarth model. (like here http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/buy/FIA...spension/shock-absorbers/kyb-shock-absorbers/ )

So can anyone recommend a website, brand of shock, and which part numbers to buy?

Cheers for the reply, but another dead end. Koni UK website have a 'finder' link which doesn't even list Stilo as an option. :bang:

be aware theres 2 different fittings that I know of for front shocks , with different hole spacing and width where it fits to hub.
worth double checking with any you order they will fit your car

Thanks for that! Yeah I had seen those Koni listings and as you say they could well be the wrong fitment for my vehicle. There's just so many variations and these websites usually just list "Stilo Abarth 2.4" which could be 4 different models with very different fits! I guess I want to be 100% sure of what I order before I import it since it'll be pretty hard to exchange it.

The other thing is I really don't think I want to pay that much for shocks. The fiats not really worth much money... KYB would be the best I'd go for but Id be happy with the FK Automotive but their listings are even more vague...

Might have to get under the car with some verniers!

Might be worth contacting your local KONI stockist. They certainly used to produce yellows for the Stilo - I fitted a set to mine!

OK, how about this as an alternative to KNOI...Bilstein B6. They're available for the Stilo Abarth [part No 35-156338 (front) and 35-156338 (rear)]. And you have a supplier in Auckland (BNT Brake & Transmission NZ Ltd).

These are also great dampers - they were fitted by FIAT as Standard to the Stilo Abarth Schumacher.

Thanks that is helpful eper info and part numbers, but again it runs into the same issue. I know categorically that the 5 door and 3 door 2.4 have different front fitments, but the KYB catalog only lists one type for the 2.4! They don't even mention the number of doors :bang:

Thanks I'm going to chase up Monroe for this. Another catalog that doesn't specify doors etc, but I've emailed them to see if they can give me further details

I think you need a front wheel off and measure up before you go any further.
just measure the hole spacing on the 2 bolts holding to hub and the width between the plates, that appears to be the main difference I could find, im not saying there may not be other differences as eper lists a lot of different shock absorbers for all the different versions of cars.
hopefully matches one of these 2

as far as i know theres no difference between the 3/5/MW setups its just body style.

these are the shocks listed for the 16v JTD and 2.4s (the heaviest of Stilo engines)

these are listed for the 1.8 petrol and the 8v JTDs

and finally these are the listed shocks for 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6...

now if you open all 3 and compare side by side you will see that there are slight differences in the bottom mount hole position and spacing. very minor between the 8v JTDs and for the 1.6s but look at the 2.4 against either and its quite a large difference in mounting position, the basic camber position is set from he position of these holes.

if you take a look at the bottom of page 119 and the top of page 120 you will see that the actual shock model doesnt change between saloon and estate varients. you should be able to cross reference from this website... good luck

go for bilstein spring the yellow lowered ones. Bilstein seem to work great especially in heavy cars. Had mine for over 150,000 klm and still function perfectly.

I had the option of buying the bilstein/eibach full kit when I imported my eibach pro kit last year... I chose the springs only so i could save $300... what a mistake!!! Now I'm replacing my shocks within 12 months...

If only we could make all decisions with retrospective knowledge :idea: lol

Hello Shanehane - was there a conclusion to your shock absorber replacements?

At over 160,000km I feel the shocks on our Stilo are softer than before - the right front seems especially soggy - though the hissing noticeable at slow speeds was always a standard Stilo feature of its gas-charged shocks, to provide its soft and supple ride.

I have the option of Italian-branded shocks in stock in Cambridge - OSRAV I think - they only come in one type for all Stilo models, which means some will miss out on correctly-positioned bolt holes, by the looks.

Anyway - hopefully you've been happy with what you've found (good ride quality?) and can help with some 20/20 hindsight for me?
