To be honest you will find it quick enough and besides if you remap it then your insurance will surely go through the roof.

leave it well alone for the first year, and i wouldnt bother with 18"s and saying that i just got rid of 17"s as they cost too much in fuel and ride is far too hard.

But yes the JTD is a peach of a engine and the best of the stilo range me thinks.

This forum is completely different to the Seat forum im on. I posted a message on there a month or so ago saying that i was planning on getting a 1.4 Leon. I was persuaded not too as it was too slow and i'd be alot better off getting a 1.9 tdi lol. I was then told the 1.9 VW engine is highly tunable and a re-map will make a world of difference and i'd love the power lol. Then i could get bigger injectors, a hybrid turbo and a FMIC and i'd be looking at 180bhp. I was buzzin. That made me get my heart set on a 1.9tdi. Then i saw the 1.9JTD and thought hmmmmm........:chin:

one of the things i remember about my stilo occasionally (for boot open warning and going round a corner to sharply)... i kinda miss it

it is a good car... and if looked after will look after you

mine never gave me any major issues.... it had its defects....

well when i first bought it i needed a new body computer and a few months after a gear linkage... and then it went through 2 intercooler air hoses.... but these are expected... and 2 new horns (i work in an area thats quite easily flooded)....

it was also perfectly specced

Hi, im 18 and have just bought a jtd as my third car.

The first car was a banger, well it worked and drove and did me good for its purpose, similar to yourself i used to race motorbikes, and as much as i hate to agree a track is different to a road. You havent got to worry about yourself as much as you have to worry about the prick behind on his phone, etc. After i rit my polo off i was given a caddy pickup to use temporarily and as this was a slow car which i never ragged and never fukd up as i knew it would break it due to high mileage, this helps your driving in general. Now i have bought my new car yesterday in fact, i love it. The reason i would suggest a banger as a first car for a few months even is that if you do crash it, just if, then you can just scrap it rather than going through the insurance and losing no claims, you wouldnt wna do that with your new stilo would you. See what i mean mate? but they are nippier than you think mate, just a cloud of deasel smoke, nothing a new air filter wont solve tho

Just cos its an old banger doesn't meanyou won't need to go through insurance, you might not have a choice if you hit someone else

I think the poster meant if he ONLY destroyed his own motor rather than someone else's.

Meaning he would only need 3rd party insurance.

yer that unfortunately is exactly what i did, was only third party at the time anyway so couldnt get any money back, so was no benefit in telling them. so sat on my drive for a while, while i stripped it of bits
