Hi folks
Failed the mot today, main thing was corrosion in the front sub frame, which needs replaced or she's scrap. Anyone happen to have a decent one lying around or know where i can get one (please?).

Hi folks
Looking for some expertise here. I've located a good subframe but its from a 2006 model (3dr, 1.4 16v, which is same as mine), but mine is 2004, and from what I can see the wishbones are different (mine are like solid cast metal with the non replaceable ball joints whereas the 2006 model versions are more like fabricated items with the replaceable ball joints). Anybody able to confirm if the frame/wbones off the 2006 car will fit mine. (Altho the wbones are different can't imagine that the sub frame would be different? But if anyone could confirm that would be great).

There are two different sub-frames listed for the 1.4 but the modification description for both looks to be identical, so not sure that ePer is completely helpful on this one.

The difference does relate to the "fastening of the front oscillating arm" (i.e. wishbone) so it doesn't sound good.

I've never tried to fit the pressed arms into my sub-frame though (mine are cast) but I remember reading that one type uses a 12mm bolt and the other a 14mm bolt, so that would suggest a different size captive nut on the sub-frame, which would mean that the new style sub-frame is "different" and therefore would not fit with your parts.

Having said that, the hub bearing pillar looks like it's unchanged, so theoretically you could fit the new arms to match your new sub-frame... but I haven't looked at all the other potential parts you would need, so don't quote me..

Thank you for the comments,Ralf S, much appreciated again. Based on what you say, I'm thinking that, unless anyone else on here just happens to have a definitive understanding of this, it's a case of taking a punt with the replacement sub frame adding in the matching wishbones and kind of hoping that it all fits together as it should. Really don't want the old bus to die just yet and, if it works, on the plus side putting new ball joints in will be easier ....

If the seller of the subframe still has the wishbones (in whatever condition) ask them to throw them in as part of the deal..

At least you'll be able to see if the new styley fram and arms will fit the rest of the car before you buy new wishbone arms, if the ones you receive are knacked.

Hah! Funnily enough that's exactly what I've done....... located a Sub frame with the wishbones attached pulled from a 2004 car, due to be delivered today, but no sign so far..... Should be ok.... hopefully......

Got the sub frame delivered and looks really good. Includes both wishbones which are the cast rather than the pressed type, and ball joints etc all look good, so think all should be ok for fit as a straight replacement. Booked in for next week so looks like the old girl will keep on runnin' for a wee while yet......yaaay!!

Quick update on this, just in case its of any use to anyone for future reference. Replacement sub frame now fitted and MOT passed for another year. But the point I wanted to make is that the second hand frame cost me £108 (including the serviceable wishbones) delivered and fitting was £100. So couple of hundred quid, all in, which in the grand scheme of the cost of car maintenance isn't a huge amount. Must admit, when I see cars advertised for sale as MOT fails with a rotten sub frame my first thought is that the car is beyond reasonably economic repair and is therefore scrap, but just shows that a wee bit time spent searching around on t'interweb means that that doesn't necessarily have to be the case
