Yesterday, coming back from the shops, I lost the power steering, indicators, hazard warning lights etc.

The display on the dashboard has been showing "checking " with the time stuck at 12:01 ever since.

I did call the break down people thinking that it may have been a fuse or broken connection that could be readily corrected but no such luck.

He informed me that it needs engine management diagnosis to sort it out.

Obviously with it being saturday afternoon, there were no garages open for a quote. Has this happened to anyone ? If so what was the price (roughly)

I don't know if the garage I normally use has the equipment to do this so any recomendations for garages in the Newcastle upon Tyne NE7 area would be appreciated

Hi sounds like your electrical system is having a funny turn first off I would take the battery out and give it a good charge, stilo's hate low volts and throw a tantrum when this happens. how old is your battery? good luck if this doesn't cure the fault i'm sure one of the greater minds on here will be able to help:worship:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Car is running ok, well if you count no indicators etc as ok. So battery is out of the equation.

I think that the on board computer system has gone down causing problems. According to dashboard display it's still "checking". So it looks like a job for an electrical car mechanic.

have you tried disconecting the battery negative lead if not take it off and leave it off for an hour this will reset the ecu :)

Update for you, I did as suggested by Rowena and disconnected the battery.
The car re set itself and I now have all the things I lost.
Problem is that the dashboard does not light up at all so I am assuming that the problem blew a fuse in the fusebox.

Garage can get it checked and sorted.

Many thanks to everyone
