Stillo 2.4 Abarth manual Non starter

I have a 2.4 Abarth with problems , loose connection and ASR failure, it used to start and now won't , it has had a new petrol pump and I have also put in a new OEM crankshaft sensor , I have had a very experienced vehicle electrician on it also . I have checked all the cables and all are fine including ECU pins , I have charged battery and even checked brake switch , any Ideas from you guys would be greatly appreciated before I commit harry carry or lose my hair , such a shame because it is a true delight to drive, by the way it is manual and has skyroof , yours in Hope Paul.

PS I have just had a check round and notice there is a whining noise being emitted from the ECU ! is that normal ?.

Hmmm can't say I've noticed my ECU whining on my 2.4 Manual. I had one go on my Punto which started misfiring - it was easy to get a plug n play replacement online.

As for the ASR fault - it usually fails after you disconnect the battery, but clears after a couple of ignitions. But if it is a fried ECU . . Who knows. . .

Thanks Steve , we have obtained a working ECU, ignition barrel and the aerial around the barrel , but still no joy , does anyone know if anything else has to be replaced ? thanks Paul.

I have a body ecu of the same car as above coming so lets hope that does the trick , I will post the result when fitted so you guys know .

I was playing around in the engine bay over the weekend and did notice there was a loud buzzing noise from somewhere when I had the power on, without starting the engine. I disconnected the battery and got an ASR + ESP failure on start up, but a couple of wiggles of the wheel / taps of the brake fixed it.

I have a similar problem, did the body computer solve the issue?

I bought a Stilo Abarth that would start but cut out within a second or two, checked loads of things and found it was the MAF sensor, disconnect the air intake pipe from the throttle body, but make sure it is well away from the intake, now try and start the engine, it should run but would be fluffy when accelerating.

Happened over the 10 years twice to me.
First time crank sensor. (Timing)
Second time the RPM sensor. (Fuel)

These 2 sensors control the firing and fuel control

if you have fire and fuel it should start, you can remove a spark plug after an attempt and look if it is wet etc.
You might have a power problem to the igniters, or low feul oil pump pressure.

Hope you can eliminate these 2 and then know where to go further.

Just bought a fiat stillo abarth but I am having problem with starting in it after the engine is hot, if I use a running car battery it will start immediately any battery to jump start it must be inside a car and the engine must be running, some people say the problem is the key starter,pls what can be wrong with the car pls.

If the car starts when you connect another battery to it, then the problem is your battery.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and then turn the key. If the engine does not turn over quickly (whether it starts or not), then the battery needs to be replaced.

If the engine turns over quickly but the engine doesn't start then you might have a faulty camshaft sensor. The sensors break down and usually give a problem when they (and the engine) are hot.

You can check a faulty sensor. Connect one of the spark plug leads to an old spark plug and rest it on the engine (so it's earthed). When you turn the engine over, you should see a spark. If there's no spark then the coil pack isn't firing.

Connect one of the fuel injector connection plug to a bulb or volt meter. The glass bottomed bulbs with the metal tabs on the bottom fit just nicely into an injector plug. Again, turn the engine over. If you don't see a flashing light or some volts then the fuel injector isn't receiving a signal. No spark and no injection means the camshaft sensor is knackered.

If you get sparks and the injector is firing, then it's a fuel or fuel pressure issue. You would need to start at the pump and work towards the fuel rail. Pressure in the regulator/fuel rail may be a bit low.
