For the last few weeks I've noticed my gear stick getting stiffer (ooh er!) to the point where it doesn't drop into the center when in neutral. It slides front/back into gear smoothly and I think as easily as from new - just side to side is like pushing a brick through treacle.

Corrosion or fraying of the control cables perhaps?

I'm sure I saw somewhere that spraying wd40 or something like that on the control cable ends solved the problem. The other solution seems to be to change the cables.

If the car is less than 3 years old get it into the garage and get the gear selection cables replaced under warranty - I've had mine done twice...apparently the design of the housing lets water in 'somehow' and it sits and corrodes the cables and they stick in colder weather...wd30/lube will be a temp fix but if it is still in warranty get them replaced.

Apparently it is very common with Puntos (although most Punto owners I know have never had the problem) and I'm the only Bravo with the issue (aye shining bright!)...

Over 3 years old now... brave new world... Bravo with no warranty!

i grew up with cars with no warranty

only in the last few years has it been a possibility and i only tried to claim once and it was rejected

not worth the paper they are written on in my experience

just another form of insurance, and whether insurance is worthwhile depends on how unlucky you are :D

if you follow the gear cables to the top of the gearbox there is a pin (depending on the engine size) that needs removing, cleaning (with sandpaper or similar) and then greasing with a multi-purpose grease. easy job depending on the engine size.:)

Out of my warranty I have had:

A new set of 17" alloys - fiat price £?
EGR valve - £?
Steering wheel - £?
Odd little electrical gremlins tracked down and resolved.. - £?

The diamond cut finish was blemishing... so they replaced them.

I dont understand how they can deny the wheel replacement. There is obviously a design/manufacturing/meaterials fault given how many cases we have on here from our regular members - not just people joining because they have a blistered wheel.

said it was wear and tear

wear and tear is excluded from 3rd year of the warranty
