How can i make my own stelth shelf for my fiat punto mk2 iv just got some new speakers and eventually they will be amped but i dont want to go for the boring style of putting them in my current standard shelf but then again dont want to pay £100, iv got all the materials just need an idea of the designs and stuff please help!
:bang:

If you dont want to use your original shelf at all, get some thick ply or MDF (plys stronger for roughly the same weight just more expensive). Draw round your shelf for a template then cut it out. If you want it stealth stylee, mark off where the speakers are to go.

Now from here you can 2 options (maybe more that i havent thought of).
Option 1:
Mark out where the mounts go for the speaker then route out the tickness of the speaker (taking account of the cone travel etc) and then screw in the speaker.

Option 2:
Cut out the whole bigger than the speaker (so it fits snug but is countersunk) and have another bit of wood underneath screwed to the bottom. This should have the normal size speaker hole.

From either of them options you'll need to cover the speaker areas with accousitc clear carpet. The rest can be normal. But basically cover the top and you will hide the speakers (y)

If some bits are fuzzy/you need more detail lemme know :)

Ply is only half the weight of mdf Luke!
If you want to use ply, I wouldn't buy it from a shop like B&Q. They store the sheets on their sides, which causes warping. It is also expensive. Try a local builder's merchants. You'd probably spend 25% less, get a larger sheet and it wouldn't be warped.

Ply is only half the weight. What the hell are you talking about, its virtually the same weight. No offense intended. If anything it weighs slightly more! It just costs more and harder to cut intricate shapes with, thats why people dont use it. Apart from me of course. lol. And yeah, dont bother with B & Q... go to a timber place and get an offcut, they are blimen cheap. (y)

And me
It isnt too hard to cut with a jigsaw and the right blade, and an angle grinder with a sanding disk (instead of filing with a file). I prefer ply becuase it doesnt warp so much as MDF either as the multiple flat layers help stop the bending.

D4NS, I've had to carry and 8x4 foot sheet of ply (3/4 inch) and a smaller (6x4 foot, 3/4 inch) sheet of mdf. The mdf was the heavier. MDF is denser than plywood. If you have the same volume of ply and mdf, then the mdf would be the heavier, as its the most dense.
