General Steering wheel delamination

General Steering wheel delamination

The main annoyance is that where the covering has detached and stretched it has created a flap of loose covering that is very distracting and spoils the driving enjoyment somewhat. Fortunately, it's not always noticeable, only when you are holding the steering wheel! :bang:

I tried reheating it with a hairdryer in an attempt to re-soften the adhesive and push it back into place but to no avail.

I assumed the Panda was the same, as the one in the photo looks like the ivory type...

Ivory? Should've gone to Specsavers! ;)

Polypedates - The damage does look bad, especially compared to my own which has covered a lot of miles. Do you have a ring on your right hand or when engaging the steering lock, do you turn the steering to the LHS? [and hence the sun shines on that portion of the wheel].

I would ring Fiat UK as they are certainly more PR-aware than dealers, in my experience.

Sorry for the thread ressurection but I've been on holiday in France :)

I took it back to the supplying dealer last month and showed them the damage. They agreed it looked like a fault and said they would take it up with Fiat UK. I got a call back the following day restating the argument that it is trim and therefore not covered under the 3rd year warranty. :bang:

I have now written to Fiat UK to put their supposedly improved customer services to the test.

Time will tell...

Good luck. It shouldn't matter whether it's in 3rd year of warranty or completely out of warranty - it's obvious from the amount of duff steering wheels on this forum that Fiat bought a duff batch. They should just replace it & stop pis*ing people off. If it costs them that much they should be taking the matter up with their suppliers.

My thinking entirely, I even cited a number of Forum threads about the same problem for good measure (y)

You should see the state of the Renault sport steering wheels! Makes ours look like they are made of granite, Renault refused point blank to sort, stating people were using hand creme etc that was damaging the wheels, that and excessive sweat! they will try anything to wriggle out of a claim nowadays
