What are the signs and symptoms of the steering rack problem?

When my car is stationery, and I turn the steering wheel from side to side, it makes a clicking/creaking noise.

Also, when I drive slowly over uneven surfaces, there is a slight knock from the front of the car.

I drive an 06 plate Fiat Grande Punto - Registered 31 March 2006.

Pretty much sounds like you have the problem.

Let you local Fiat dealer know and they should replace it for you

I have the your first problem but not the second one - do I have a steering rack problem too? Anyway I've booked mine to go in before the end of the year for some checks, and this is definitely one of them!!

thats the rack for sure, if it makes a knocking noise from front on uneven roads.
Also you may find play in the steering wheel

The steering wheel feels loose, and turning it through the "dead zone" causes no change in the car's direction.
