Steering rack replacement...

Just wanted some info on changing a steering rack on a 1.6 bravo

Is it an easy job or is it more of a garage job?

if so how much would i be looking at for a garage to fit it for me?

reckon i can pick up a rack from either scrappers for 20quid or ebay for about 30-40

also are the steering racks on the 1.2/1.4/1.8 (brava/bravo) all the same or do i need one off a 1.6 bravo??

whats wrong with your steering rack?

im pretty sure i know what u mean, but im not 100% certain, if it is what i think, ull need to get the whole engine out, it will be easier that way, and they are different, 1.4 and 1.6 and different dont know about the others, its just where the gear linkage hooks on to it where its different.

it's just basically knackered there is loads of play in it it dosn't self centre and it has a few notches in aswell. when you turn into corners it just dosn't feel quite right and it gives you no confidence whatsoever.. when it went to the garage for a check they said there was no visible damage but couldn't find any other reason for the steering problems..

take the whole enigne out just for a steering rack????

surely you can get at it from underneath???

u probably could get it out the bottom, but u need to disassemble the gear linkages which is easy but it does take some power to hook it off. and u need to undo all the pipes leading to it. but u can give it a go.

once uv done it let me know how u did cuz mine might need doing soon

Yea i'm thinking about doing it probably either this weekend or the next it's getting steadily worse and i just dont feel safe driving it...

i did do it when i swapped my engine, but then the whole engine was out, so that made it easier...
