Hi,

Has anyone ever changed the steering rack on an Uno? If so, is it quite straight forward? The Haynes manual makes it sound very easy, 'just undo the steering column bolt, undo the tie rod ends, undo the steering rack mounting bolts and pull the rack out'. Sounds too easy! I want to replace my leaking old rack sometime soon but want to be prepared for the worst! Any advice would be appreaciated.

Thanks in advance.

If like the Panda then it really is that easy :)

I put a turbo rack on my 1.0L when the teeth got worn on my old one and made me crash into a curb :S

It's really easy, without looking at a haynes manual i did it after work on a 2 post ramp and it took me an hour to replace, that was also putting my old track rod ends onto the newer rack.

Theres two brackets that hold the rack to the subframe, two bolts per bracket. If my memory is correct one of the bolts at the back on the drivers side is a bit hard to get out or the bracket is harded to take off.

Hope that sheds a bit of light on the subject.

Dan

its real easy as every one has stated. just get it on a ramp, get an extra hand and tools with a x6 pack Heineken and your good to go.(y)

it took me under an hour to get it off and new one in, recently. you just have to manualy try your best to get the wheels straight by adjusting the tie rod ends and straight to a garauge to do the wheel alighnment bru!:slayer:

If you need a hand, phone Karl, he's got a workshop (with a 2 post lift) in Blackheath, Kuilsriver. Sure he'll be able to help you out if need be. 0829662548
