I've just been to have my wheel alignment checked as I'd noticed the inside shoulders of both front tyres were taking quite a hit (not much tread left on the inside edges of the tyres after only 5k miles).
I asked the alignment people to check the wishbone bushes, track rod ends and rack knuckles first to see if there was any play in them - pointless doing the alignment if something's worn. All was OK, but he did point out that I've got a leak from the pinion-end of my steering rack.
So, can anyone recommend a good source for a steering rack (either new or reconditioned) and how much hassle is it to replace the rack? Access didn't look to bad but I might have been missing something.
BTW, my alignment was miles out. The chap said I'd probably done it hitting a pothole (lots to choose from around here) and I might well have done for my steering rack in a similar way. The guy in front of me had a Volvo C70 had a nicely cracked alloy courtesy of another road-crater.
