Right so basically I've noticed this noise for a while now!

When cornering hard/sharp it almost sounds as though the front disks are scraping against something?!

I've have my wheels tracked and balanced so it's not a problem there, there's no play or usual movement when driving and it mainly seems to be on the drivers side (although that may be just because I'm closer to it)

Any ideas what it could be? And or how to sort it?!

Thanks

Leon

Have any of the neighbours lost a cat lately, one with a big collar, might be stuck in your steering. Easy to check though, dried blood spattered everywhere ;)
Other than that I would check the brakes as well or may need a clean, are you braking when cornering and hence the noise?

Haha nooo, no cats in my wheel arches! The dogs wouldn't let any near house so I'm pretty sure I don't need to worry about checking for dry blood ;)!
Nope, not breaking through corners.. Gotta power through them :p

This is probably going to sound obvious/stupid but not through small corners, the harder and fast I turn, the louder it is

I experience this grinding noise as well, when there is slow sharp cornering to the right. When the car gets into straight, in 10-20 meters it has gone.
I suppose it could be something around the steering system, but I am not expert what is exactly could be.

From your description I had a very similar thing earlier this year and I can pretty much guarantee that its the thin metal brake disk protector behind the disk that catches on the disk itself, probably catching now as some rust has
built up. It also only made noise when cornering for me too, I'm still not sure why.

Just take the wheel off and prise it back a bit with a screwdriver - be careful not to scratch the rear of the disk itself though.

Circled here (sorry for the photo, it was the best I could find in a short search...)

It's also worth checking any drive shaft gaters are intact and not split. If the gaters are damaged and water can get in, the bearings can get dirt in them and can make scraping / clicking noises when turning sharply. I've had this happen on a couple of cars now.

sounds to me that your disks are touching the back plate disk protection. easy job. go to a garage ,or by yourself , and try to bend it a little bit to the points the plate actually touches the disk.

My cars developed this same grinding noise but I've sussed it's only when the steering wheel is adjusted to the lowest setting. Moving up solves the problem. It never made this noise prior to being lowered I don't know if it's links somehow but I just need to raise it about an inch and the problem is gone.
