Hello,

So once a week for the last month of so am having a slight problem when starting the car.

I turn the key and the engine tries to start but then doesn't start the engine it makes some noises then cuts dead.

When turning the key again straight after this it works fine.

Like I said this is only happening once a week, any ideas what it could be?

You'll have to describe "some noises" in more detail.....

i.e. what sort of noises?, does it sound like it's turning over but just not firing ?.... or it's slower cranking ?... or a higher pitched whirring?

Yes, turning over but not starting, lasts for about 3-4 seconds

and turning over at normal speeds ?

What lasts for 3-4 seconds ? the unusual noise ?

Spit it out man ;)

I have noticed this with damp conditions particularly. I find that new plugs is usually the cure, they seem not to last long in the Panda and annual changing is worth it if you can afford it. This could be down to fuel quality as well. Ive noticed intermittent similar issues. E5 is better and it doesnt seem to happen. My daughters 2017 behaved like this today and she runs it on E10. Its never been an issue other than an irritation. If I refuel in the northwest its more prevalent. Though this may be just imagination.

Where in the northwest are you? I am near Liverpool.

I had spark plugs put in about 5 months ago, new ones NGK from GSF car Parts.

And fuel I have been using a mix between Esso E10 and BP E10.

Think my 2015 1.2 petrol would solve this with using E5?

There is no doubt E5 suits the car a bit better and I would try a tank or two and see. Maybe you can find a balance and put in a fill of E10 and top up with E5 at half a tank used. They do run better on E5 smoother and better on hills. Drive in convoy and the differenc of big hills is obvious. My daughter is in Manchester. I notice the difference in the if I fill up anywhere in that area. Not always but often enough for the comment. Its a fact that is easier east than west. For years I thought that was imagination too. Fuel in East Anglia seems to me is of a more even quality. Its only after huge milages that Im have noticed these things and its very slight but I am convinced. After a while you begin to realise that what seemd a slight sensation is actually real.

Well thank you. I think I will keep on using E5 for a good few months then, my cheapest options are Go Fuel or Sainsbury's Super round by me.

Will it be ok for the 1.2 engine as my handbook and filler cap only say use E10.

Thanks again.

All fuel used to be E0 then E5 was introduced and now E10 so it will be fine. I havnt tried using a mixture to see if 50:50 or some other mix would work. Try the alternatives and let us know what your experiences are. I run ours on E5 as particularly the twinair does not run nearly as well on E10'. We now do low mles and m happier with E5 sitting in the tank for weeks as well. If you do more miles then E10 is quite a saving.
